RATING 4.5 STARS

A Fare to Remember is by Opal Carew. Buckle your seat belts for this one, ladies. I am warning you ahead of time, this book is burn your face off hot. I’ve read a lot of steamy, sexy romances. But this one, whew, I won’t soon forget.

Stefani Trivoli, or Stevie as her friends call her, is having a very bad day. She caught her boyfriend in bed with another woman. So she threw a couple of suitcases in the trunk of the cab she drives for a living and left. Now she is homeless, hurt and angry. Her friend calls her and jokingly tells her she should screw the next customer she picks up, sort of a get back on the horse right away kind of advice. Well, just as he said it, a very suave, very good looking business man climbs into the back seat. Let’s just say that Stevie took her friend’s advice.

Stevie has no interest in getting back into a relationship. Twice, now, she has been hurt badly. But this guy ignites something within her. Something she didn’t know was there. He wants more than one night. The question is, can she give it to him?

Reid Jacobs is a very rich entrepreneur. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. When the sexy cabbie comes on to him, he doesn’t hesitate. But he knows once will not be enough. Reid has some very particular proclivities when it comes to sex. He likes to be in complete control, for his partner to submit to him. Will Stevie submit to him?

Stevie and Reid had chemistry like the fourth of July. When Reid has to go to work, though, and leaves Stevie in his apartment, she is quite surprised when Dylan Cole shows up and thinks she is trespassing. Dylan is Reid’s business manager I believe. But he is also his best friend. He is the complete opposite of Reid. Where Reid wears his designer suits, Dylan wears jeans and t-shirts and has several tattoos. Stevie reacts to Dylan immediately. How can this be? They are so different. She is not in a relationship with Reid, though. But just the same, she feels guilty for feeling attracted to Dylan.

Reid wants Stevie to stay and will do whatever he has to convince her. When Stevie proposes experimenting with the three of them together, Reid is all in, as is Dylan.

Okay, I’ll stop here and add a few of my thoughts. First, I don’t really enjoy the whole master/submission thing. And this started out that way, but to my delight, it quickly moved on. These three together were crazy sexy. Stevie, though, has some very definite ideas about people with money from her own experiences. And this is one of the things keeping her from wanting to get in any deeper emotionally with Reid and Dylan. But the more time she is with Reid, the more she sees that he just might be the exception to what she has known in the past. Also, I really, really loved Dylan. And at times, I felt like he was getting a bum deal with this. The strongest emotional bond was forming between Stevie and Reid. He was just sort of the third wheel. But he was falling for her as well. Still, he seemed completely happy with things and I think their bond will continue to strengthen.

Going in I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. I loved these three and like I’ve said a bunch of times already, it is crazy hot. If you enjoy this type of romance, I highly recommend it. I loved it and can’t wait to read more by Opal Carew!

Oh my gosh. This book was awesome.

This is not the first book by Opal Carew I have read and it's definitely not the last. Everything about this book is right on the mark.

Who wouldn't fall for a guy that would do anything for a girl? Especially if that guy is all in from the beginning. Plus be willing to bring a friend along for the good times in the bedroom. YUM! Sign me up!

This book is not only remarkable in the sack with the MFM (including a bit of MM action and a small flash of bdsm) and the sweet love affair. But it's also has a little bit of theme spinoff from the classic movie An Affair to Remember with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.

This story is definitely one to remember. Extremely well written, with the steam and heat off the charts, and an ending that makes you hold your breath hoping for the best. This story is a winner in my book!

Opal Carew did not disappoint! Loaded with spicy erotica and an awesome read overall!

* Copy received for review consideration.

Stevie has just had her heart broken by her cheating ex-boyfriend and is instantly attracted to the handsome businessman that has stepped into her cab. She is a fiercely independent woman and after encouraging words from her gay best friend she sleeps with Reid, even though they know nothing about each other.

After talking with Reid, and having him invite her to be his escort at a lavish party, she realises he is a billionaire and Stevie has a bad history with the rich and famous. She feels a strong attraction to him but can she overcome her bad past?

There were quite a few things that I disliked about this story and I feel like the blurb needs to contain a note at the bottom that lets readers know that this has BDSM, m/m and ménage a trois. While I am a very open person and love to read about all the topics mentioned, this is simply marketed as a romance story when it goes far beyond that, and I believe readers should know what they are getting into.

I really did not like that both men (Reid and his best friend who we are introduced to later, Dylan Cole) used no protection, didn't ask Stevie if she was okay with it, or if she was on the pill or anything. I can't remember any book I've read where it wasn't even discussed but just ignored entirely. Especially when Stevie gets tied up by Reid and he uses a ball gag and they literally have zero conversations about it beforehand, like if she needs a safeword or heck, if she is even into that kinda stuff??

The insta-love was also very crazy and not well done. They go from spending a bit of time together (all sexual) and then Reid proposes at the end!.

Insta-love can be done well when I truly understand why the characters feel so connected but in this novel, besides being attracted to one another, I really don't see why Stevie loves Reid and vice-versa. There was a scene when they were having dinner and the author could have had them talk and get to know each other but it was cut short and they immediately went to have sex.

Overall I think I would have enjoyed this if the author had stuck to one subject or at least let the reader know what this was actually about. Carew is very gifted at writing steamy scenes, especially when both Reid and Dylan were involved but there needed to be more to the story than just that. The major drama that happened wasn't really resolved for me either and the ending was just a HEA that didn't make sense for either character.

Also, with my Goodreads librarian powers I changed the synopsis to Reid's name, instead of Rex (if any of you were wondering while reading other reviews that mentioned this mysterious "Rex")

|Featherbrained Books Blog | Twitter |</["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]></["br"]>

Sweet, sweet, sweet….

Whew – this is another sizzler from an author who knows how to right MFM sexy! I loved Stevie. She was having a really bad day that turned into something amazingly good. When they say you get what you need when you aren’t looking for it? That is what Reid and Dylan were. Strong, handsome, successful – and knew how to treat a lady right. The heat and chemistry between them was hot and steamy yet the emotions that eventually caught them all up was what made this read spectacular! ~Diane, 4 stars

'A Fare to Remember' by Opal Carew is the story of Reid and Stevie. This was a pretty hot intense story that burned off the pages for me...by that is why I love Ms. Carew's writing!
Stevie has just broken up with her boyfriend of two years...she caught him cheating with one of his waitress. As a cap driver Stevie gets hit on a lot but never takes it anywhere until Reid gets into her cab. He overhears her conversation with her friend telling her to sleep with the next guy that gets into her cab..which is Reid. Reid does talk her into having sex with him and Stevie puts her own demands on it. Then afterwards Reid asked her to go to a business party with him which leads them into a relationship of sorts. Reid's best friend named Dylan gets into their mix and brings an even hotter step into their relationship. This does end with a HEA.
"My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H...
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...
https://www.facebook.com/RomanceBookR...
https://www.facebook.com/groups/17091...
http://sissymaereads.blogspot.com/
https://twitter.com/soapsrus68

A Fare to Remember was a bit of a surprise. I did not know this was a menage story when I started it.
I thought the author handling the unlikely pair of a woman cab driver and a billionaire business man, as well as adding in the best friend into the relationship was done very well. The whole story was well put together. Stevie had a few "too stubborn" moments but that is the only negative I have. ARC provided by NetGalley.

***ARC Provided by the Publisher via NetGalley***

3.5 Stars

Opal Carew writes erotic fiction. As I recall, her profile says as much.

This was erotic. They meet in a cab and pull over for sex in an alley before the first ride is over. If this doesn't work for you, stop reading now. Because, it only gets more erotic from there. Into the story comes bondage, submission and a threesome.

And, it works. It is well written, the sex is hot and, well, erotic. I appreciate Opal Carew's writing as she actually tells a story in the middle of the sex, which is not something that always happens in erotic fiction...and this is the reason I keep reading her.

That and the hot sex. :)

I recommend this book.

***This and other reviews featured on our blog “Booked All Night” http://bookedallnightblog.com/ and here: https://www.facebook.com/BookedAllNight/***

It’s HOT! There are plenty of sexual encounters and hot scenes. Now, If you expect monogamy, this novel is not for you. You have been warned.

Stevie Trivoli is a taxi driver who just found out her boyfriend was cheating on her. Her bags are in her car and she knows she will need a new place to stay. Stevie is a strong woman but this isn't the first time a man has hurt her. Stevie's talking on the phone with her best friend when her next customer gets inside. He's an attractive businessman who strikes a personal conversation with her and who doesn't hide the desire to get to know her better. Steve is attracted to him but she doesn't want to make the same mistake and involve her heart ever again. This time she wants something casual.

Reid Jacobs is in town just to close on a new business deal when he meets Stevie. He likes what he sees and he wants to convince her to give him a chance. He knows Stevie is different than other women he has been with. She doesn't seem to be interested in his money or his power. He doesn't want to disregard the connection they share. Letting her go is not an option. Convincing her to attend a dinner business meeting with him is a must. After one night with her, he's sure this could go somewhere. He just needs to make her see it too. Things get a lot more complicated when his best friend Dylan enters the picture and so does her ex-fiancée.

A Fare to Remember had good characters. It was fast-paced and very entertaining. I read it in just one sitting. I like both main characters. Stefani knew what she wanted and she was not shy about it. Reid was also likable. It was easy to fall for him. He didn't play any games and was willing to do anything to keep Stevie with him. I felt bad for Dylan. He was sweet and I thought he deserved more. tl; dr: no plot, just badly written porn

***

The story:
I'm no stranger to a racy novel. In fact, some of my favorites have some pretty explicit content. However, I do tend to require some kind of plot with my novels, and this book ... did not have one. It had just as much plot as I imagine a pornographic film would, meaning it was pretty thinly developed and barely made sense, stringing together the erotic scenes rather than composing a story.

The description for this book is 100% inaccurate, especially since 'Rex' is not a character in this book. The handsome billionaire is Reid, and what the description also doesn't say is that Stevie becomes entangled in a menage-a-trois with Reid's roommate and business partner, Dylan (who is also a billionaire, but he's different, he's 'bad' because he has tattoos).

The first part of the book takes place over only a couple of days, and both Reid and Stevie fall head over heels in love, which is ridiculous, particularly when it seemed like she had a better connection and more things in common with Dylan the whole time. The 'conflict' makes no sense (jealousy over Stevie's ex-fiance) and is not earned.

The smut is the entire purpose of this book, and in general, it's fine. It's racy and explicit, and if that's what you're here for, well, you got it. There are many parts that are so unrealistic they border on fantasy. Things like consent and safety are totally overlooked, and none of the characters even seem to acknowledge it. There are no STIs or pregnancy risks in this alternate universe. Arousal is nearly instant. If you like your smut to have a little foreplay, look away, because this isn't for you.

There's a 'twist' near the end right before the HEA is supposed to be achieved, and it came out of nowhere (figuratively and literally), and just tosses a weird conflict in between the two characters. When they finally begin to sort things out, he immediately proposes marriage to her. I laughed out loud. It was just completely ridiculous.

Technical elements:
Where do I even begin? This book is riddled with typos, missing words, wrong words, and other errors. I find it hard to believe that such a large publisher would go ahead with this, but there you go. Romance is generally considered to be the bottom of the barrel in the literary world because it's written by women for women, and I can rail against that another day, but this book in particular is a good example of why it's not taken seriously.

Ever heard of purple prose? Here's a great example for you. Every single time a character's eyes are references (looking, gazing, etc., included), the author includes the specific eye color they have. Reid's eyes are described as 'cobalt blue' 18 times (and that's not the only shade of blue they are called, but seriously?). Any time there is a meal served, it's described like it would be on a menu. The male anatomy is so overly described it's painful. She calls the female outer labia 'petals'. I won't go on.

Final thoughts:
This book reminded me of terrible fan fiction. I've seen more subtle storylines on soap operas. If you're looking for a hyper-unrealistic erotic m/f/m fantasy, here it is. If you want an actual story with character development, look elsewhere. I recommend Nina Lane or Tiffany Reisz.

Between a four and a five star read. This book is NOT for everyone. Which is why I understand the low average rating. But I simply loved it!
