Really slow going at the beginning.

I don't usually find a one-night stand romantic, and this one - with the heroine in worn clothes after her shift as a waitress and the hero not even buying her dinner or taking her on midnight stroll or getting to know her at all - really seemed tawdry.

Other things that bothered me:
The heroine's ridiculous announcement at the hero's engagement party.
The H's father and brother attendance at the party - even though they never spoke or acknowledged the hero.
The heroine was a complete ninny who kept bleating about independence, who drew portraits and had a waitress job in high end restaurant but proudly lived next to a crack house.
The hero who just thought about sex all the time.

Usually I can over look these HP foibles when Lynne Graham utilizes them, but I can't seem to give the same benefit of the doubt to AG. I think she repeats herself so much that I feel bludgeoned and I don't feel caught up in the story.

Has anyone noticed how many "Cinderellas" are cranking out of the title generator lately?

Hero and heroine spend one passionate night together, she ends up pregnant, they marry for the sake of their child but they can't help falling in love. Loved this book. Hero is pure alpha, sex on legs and heroine is a bit too feisty for me and a free spirit. They try hard to resist each other but they fail. Their chemistry is insane. I loved their journey towards true love. Epilogue with their baby boy and hero giving her an art studio is so sweet. A must read for all Harlequin Presents fans!

Can't wait for Gabriel's and Leonora's story ' Redeemed by His Stolen Bride'.

Finally a heroine who had her pride like a crown. I loved her so much even her nearly instant forgiveness didn't make me feel angry. Lol

This was good

I liked the story but at times it was pretty slow. He as getting engaged when the h showed up and told him she was pregnant from a one night stand they had. I really liked the heroine but I didn't like the hero that much. Yes he got better at the end but he blew hot and cold and was pretty cruel to the heroine. It was the same old storyline of billionaire meeting a regular girl and fighting it but eventually loving her. And of course he is going to marry her because of the baby and yes it is a Cinderella story which are my favorite but this one just didn't wow me. I do want to read the stories about the other guys mentioned here but not in a hurry to do that either. Safe and predictable. I usually like that but not today.

Very nice read. Liked the MCs especially Skye -- Always love the name Skye. Some lovely tender scenes between the two. Loved how Lazaro teased Skye every time she said "Oh." Very cute The epilogue was very sweet too.

Also liked the sparring between Lazaro and his half-brother Gabriel, who ends up marrying Lenoro, the woman whom Lazaro was going to marry but never happened because at their engagement party Skye threw the bombshell of him impregnating her. Looking forward to reading Gabriel-Lenoro's book.

“Confessions of a Pregnant Cinderella” is the story of Skye and Lazaro.

Our H is a ruthless Spanish tycoon, who has gone from rag to riches because of his hard work. Out for vengeance against his sperm and egg donor as well as the half brother who refuse to acknowledge him, his plans go awry when the h declares that she is pregnant.. on the night of his possible engagement to an impoverished heiress! His plans are ruined! The H is mad, and refuses to believe the sultry redhead he had a one night stand with. But she too has grown up without stability, and has vowed not to let her child suffer. Thus begins an arrangement of sorts between a h who longs for a home, and a H who is hell bent on pushing her away. Loads of drama, running away yet having sex all the time and eyeroll worthy moments later, the book ends in a HEA.

Heavily disappointed by this one. I really enjoyed book two but this let me down.

Safe
2/5

For me, this book was just barely okay. It failed to draw me in and I struggled throughout the entire book. That is not enjoyable reading to me nor is it relaxing when I have to force myself on to the finish line. It moved at a slow pace and there was not really much that happened until the end.

This story was about Skye O’Hara, a waitress who had settled in Ireland and an orphan street urchin turned billionaire, Lazaro Sanchez. Lazaro's upbringing was horrific. He was the product of an affair between a man and woman who were from two of the wealthiest families in Madrid. They very uncaringly decided to turn that child over to what we would call Child Protective Services or some similar government organization when a child is given up. They didn't want him and feared their affair would be brought to light if they were to acknowledge him.

He started his life in foster care but nothing worked out for him. By the age of 10-12 he was living on the streets raising himself. I had trouble feeling empathy for this man. He was filled with vengeance, anger, and determination to force his bio parents to acknowledge him so he could have societal placement equal to theirs. He was starting to buy up propery they owned and he wanted to ruin them. This was the sole purpose in his life above anything. He would bid against them when they went in search of another property to purchase. He had half-siblings that also refused to recognize him as a relative. In fact their parents had convinced the siblings that Lazaro was not in any way related to them. His bio father took pleasure in humiliating him every chance he got.

Enough of the background. When Lazaro had been in Ireland on business he met a waitress who was serving him and asked her to have a drink with him when she got off work. I think that's code for ONS!! There was just something about her that did it for him. They did have that ONS, her first ever, and they moved on...although they both would have liked to have had more.

As soon as he returns home he finds a very high society woman who was smart and considered the most beautiful woman in the country. He made her a deal she couldn't refuse. This was NO love match. He was marrying her so he could be on the same level of society as his parents. (That would show them what they gave up!) That was his life goal. Even though he was a self-made billionaire his street urchin beginnings wouldn't let him enter into the upper echelon of society. This woman's family had all the right titles but were dead broke so Lazaro struck a deal. He would pay off her family's debts if she would marry him and get him into society.

It was during their engagement party, just as he was going to make a toast and announce his engagement, that there arrives a gate crasher. It was Skye and she had come to let him know she was three months pregnant. His almost fiancee' walked out on him and refused to be involved. Laz was furious because he only sees the suspicious and negative side of life and was sure Skye was scamming him. She had tried to reach him for a good while and she could not get through. His secretaries refused to give him any of her messages and she read where he was getting engaged. She did not come to stop the engagement/wedding. She had grown up without a father and felt it was her duty to tell him he would soon be one. She didn't want to do to her child what her mother did to her. Since she was a waitress she figured she could sneak in acting like the help.

I am a bit on the fence as to whether I would recommend this. The frustration that I had with the hero and his obsession with 'forcing' his family to acknowledge him was OTT in a big way. (My thought on that...they didn't want him and he knew it. He knew why yet he was consistantly detemined to force himself on them so everyone would know that he actually came from the highest of society. Then he would be revered.) I don't get it. I truly don't. Why would you waste your life and your mission for the truth to come out when they all seemed to despise him. Whenever he was in the same place as his father that father would do what ever it took to humiliate him. Once, when he was a boy he was waiting in the streets for his father's family to come out of the restaurant so he could see his father. When his father saw him he was thrown face down into the dirt! What a dad, huh?

Why couldn't he have gotten one of his many attorneys to file a paternity suit and try to force their hand that way! No he had to plan and plot and let it eat him alive. I had no respect for this hero.

Lots of internal dialogue. Too much so and I didn't find it interesting as it was the same thoughts over and over and over...you get the picture.

SAFETY
Both celibate while apart both times.
No real OW/OM drama. He and OW, business deal only, had never even kissed. Drama free.
No thoughts of being with anyone else on both sides.
No cheating.

Confessions of a Pregnant Cinderella by Abby Green is a sexy and enjoyable ‘surprise pregnancy’ romance for a waitress and a playboy billionaire.

When Skye O’Hara spends a passionate night with a handsome stranger, something she’s never done before, to her dismay she ends up pregnant! Having had difficulty contacting the man whom she’s figured out is billionaire hotelier Lazaro Sanchez, her only hope is to try to speak to him at a public event – the announcement of his engagement to someone else (ouch).

While Lazaro was all set to go through with his marriage of convenience to another woman, Skye’s appearance and sudden announcement of her pregnancy ruins his plans. To be truthful though, what he is feeling might be mixed with a tinge of relief? Having been abandoned by his aristocratic parents who while unwed, had conceived him then given him up to a foster home so as not to sully their reputations, he’s pulled himself up from nothing and is determined to gain his rightful place in society, even if they won’t acknowledge that he is their son. Marrying Leonora, a woman from another well known family would have helped in his quest, but now things have changed. Unlike his parents, he doesn’t intend to abandon his unborn child, and with the paparazzi making a heyday of how he’s gotten his ‘mistress’ pregnant, he needs to take control of the situation, and fast.

Proposing marriage to Skye, one where they can indulge in their attraction to each other but keep themselves emotionally detached (because Lazaro doesn’t believe in love) and stay together for at least the first few years of their child’s life will ensure Skye will be lifted out of poverty and have a new life beyond her wildest dreams. But can their relationship turn into one with a real happy ending?

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. While Skye’s actions at the beginning are a bit over the top, she didn’t mean to blurt out the truth of the pregnancy in public the way it happened and later on gets the chance to apologize to Leonora whose engagement party she ruined (who at least was not in love with Lazaro anyway). Because of Skye having no idea who her father is, it is important to her to make sure her own child will be known and acknowledged by Lazaro, making her desperate to tell him the truth. And as it turns out, Lazaro feels the same, especially after his own father won’t admit who he is. Once the shock of the situation wears off, he sees an opportunity to keep Skye and his unborn child safe and protected (as he’s seen where Skye lives and isn’t impressed) and there’s no denying the attraction that still flares between them. This leads to some sexy intimate moments.

With both of them having had complicated upbringings, they find that they have a lot in common and it’s not long before they start to have deeper feelings for each other, though Lazaro tries to resist them. Eventually he realizes that he wants more than a marriage in name only, and they get their happy ending and a sweet epilogue. The settings are lovely, with Lazaro taking Skye to Venice for their honeymoon and his own private winery and estate in the Sierra Nevada mountains. This is the first of a duet, with Lazaro’s half brother Gabriel (a man who doesn’t acknowledge their sibling relationship) getting involved with Lazaro’s ex, Leonora in the next story. I’m looking forward to reading that one too!

This review also appears at Harlequin Junkie: https://harlequinjunkie.com/review-co...

A copy of this story was provided by the publisher for review.

Yet another solid read from the great Abby Green. Can’t go wrong with her.

I will say that the beginning of the story had the typical Harlequin Presents storyline of one night resulting in baby and heroine can’t contact him to tell him so she wound up going to an event where he was going to announce his engagement to another woman in rich society in order for hero to impress to his father/half-brother that he has made it in the world. It felt very familiar, and there wasn’t anything special about the story in the beginning with a lot interesting flair. However despite the fact, the beginning was still readable, and didn’t feel like it slogged along like some stories tend to do. I wasn’t bored by it by it.

Another just a little thing was the fact that this was a one stand trope, which is not my favorite trope of all time, in fact I can pretty say that I really don’t like because I like all the build up and anticipation before the characters come together in their passionate love scenes. Now some authors can get way with it for me, but for the most part I am a no go for the one night stand. And this instance, I can say I really wasn’t into because the one night was really not shown at all. There were flashes of events in the past that showed Skye and Lazaro night, but not in detail. There was just a moment here then in another portion of the book it was here, and there night was in flashbacks all over the place in the beginning the book. So, there wasn’t really proper or full blow love scene shown for their first and their one night. Their pieces were their but the entirety wasn’t so that was a little weird and then combine that with the one night stand trope it was just not my favorite way for the beginnings couple.

Once all the stereotypical storyline of familiarity got out of the way, and it got into more the uniqueness of Skye and Lazaro as a couple as well as getting to know them as individuals then that story got much better. It felt less typical, and more unique, fresh, and gave the story it’s flair that I really enjoyed seeing play out on the page. It just made more invested into the story the more I got into it, and I really liked the characters and enjoyed them once I got know them more in the story.

Even though there wasn’t a lot angst in the story, It didn’t bother because there was enough emotional content to the story where I got the same feelings that I would feel by reading angsty moments. There were gut wrenching moments, but done a more subtle way, which was very interesting but very enjoyable to watch play out. My heart broke quite a few times for poor Skye because of what she went through between her childhood and with Lazaro and how much of blow that was for her emotionally, which added to the story I think.

There was also great intimacy built between Lazaro and Skye throughout the entire story. I liked how they were vulnerable to each other as they revealed their pasts to each other as well as hurts along the way. I rally enjoyed Skye opening up to him and making that decision on let him in even though it was really hard for her to so while in the case of Lazaro he did open to her though as soon as he did he wanted to push her away and hurt in the process which caused that tension between them. It was clear that they only wanted to open up to each other, even if it was a struggle at first, but they both committed and went in wholeheartedly it was really beautiful to see and how much of bond they had developed.

The love scenes between them were hot and very sensual as their chemistry just exploded off the page. They had some great chemistry and had since the moment they met. That just had that pull to each other that made their connection special and that reflected in the love scenes. It something they never had with anyone else before. They needed each other in every way possible that went beyond just the physical. I will say my favorite love scene was the wedding night scene, and my favorite part of the scene was the moment where her grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers together as they made love to one another, which was just moment that gave me chills. It was beautiful and poignant moment that showed how much of the connection that truly had physically, emotionally and mentally, and I love that.

The only thing that I was disappointed with was the fact that Skye never found out who her father was. I really thought that was going to be answered once Lazaro introduced the idea to Skye, but nothing came to fruition of it. I really thought he was going to find her father for her as some grand gesture to show how much he cared about her and wanted to give her that piece of herself to her. There didn’t need to be a meeting between Skye and the father, but just the information of who her father was.

Overall I enjoyed this story very much. It was up to Abby Green standards, which was amazing. Once I got to know Skye and Lazaro more, the story just really took off because it gave story its own unique flair in a stereotypical plot line. The story got so much the more it went along. I loved seeing the built up intimacy and connection between the two of them. That was my favorite part of the story. It was just a good romance to read that I throughly enjoyed.

I can’t wait to read the brother’s and ex fiancée story in the near future because that story is going to be nuts and doozy. I have feeling that one is going to be a big angst and gut wrenching ride. And I can’t wait.
