A great book to have students read on their own time! As an independent read it is very quirky and silly! However, I can’t see myself using it as a read aloud book for a class. But this is a series I think I would love to have in a classroom library.

The kids at Ella Mentry School have failed their standard history tests, and the worldly Dr. Nicholas is brought in to help them.

This has been one of my favorites in the series so far. Dr. Nicholas is an awesome history teacher who is over ninety and still able to sass those kids. Plus keep them interested in history. My six-and-a-half-year-old son and I laughed at A.J.'s horrible test answers and the antics of Dr. Nicholas.

I really don't mind tests. But I do mind the......LANGUAGE!!!!! The mean and bad words are just PLAIN wrong!
I mean no offense, but that just don't sound right. And I'm only 9! but other than that it is pretty good. Oh and
Whitney I'm with ya!

This book would have been even better if a) my students were American or b) it had Canadian history facts instead of American. But my students still enjoyed it none the less and couldn't stop laughing the whole way through (especially during the part about Thomas Crapper).

It also gave me a great idea for teaching my students about history (which, come on, all us teachers know, can be a little boring). A TIME BOAT! What a fun, interactive idea. My kids are already asking me to buy them one LOL

After Ella Mentry School scores the lowest on American History in the county, Principal Klutz hires Dr. Nicholas to help improve the scores on the next test or the entire school will be closed. Dr. Nicholas spends her time telling the children about the history of toilet bowls, and Barbie dolls, but nothing about what they think they need to know about the test, so they form a study group. Mr. Klutz fires Dr. Nicholas for wasting valuable time. The day of the test arrives, and the results of the tests are revealed...

I really enjoyed this book. It was really cute! I like how it’s written like an 8 year old. I also liked how the book had footers. There was a dare on one, I thought that was a fun touch. AJ was repeatedly confused about what the adults around him meant. The book is about a test the school did poorly on. The teachers had to teach the kids and retest them
in order for the school to stay open. A special teacher came in and engaged the students in the lessons and guided them to success. The students passed the next test easily.

Story was funny, but way too many uses of the word 'crapper'. That is not language I want my children being casually exposed to even if it was a man's name. Most children do not have the maturity to stop themselves from imitating what they see, hear, or read, so it isn't okay to use inappropriate language in books. I will skip this one in the series.

I liked that you learned the history about toilets and Barbies. Toilets are funny. They needed to do a history test and if they failed twice, the school would shut down forever. And then they would have to go to a dork school. They failed it once and then got it right the next time and saved the school.
