Eternal Choice

THIS BOOK. I LOVE IT. <br /><br />I like it even more than the first one. If this trend continues, I won't be alive after book six. <br /><br />Chloe's absent father swoops her away to Malibu and yet another new school. Of course she isn't happy, she left everything behind in Keene Valley and can't wait to go back home. <br /><br />She starts working to make her dream a reality and that's when her memories start coming back, right when two familiar boys she couldn't place showed up in her life again. <br /><br />They were supposed to stay away and let Chloe be happy but nothing is ever that simple. And she's in danger, being hunted by a coven of witches. They couldn't just leave her to fend for herself now could they? <br /><br />First off, the beginning of the book wasn't what I thought it would be, but in a good way. It was so "human". I really liked it and almost didn't want Trent to show up at all. Jax was very likable and he's officially become my favourite over the course of the book. <br /><br />I also liked how the stepmother wasn't evil and that Chloe didn't resent her baby brother. And even her father came around too. <br /><br />And that concert? Chloe was living her best life and let me tell you I was so jealous. I have seen Asking Alexandria live but never Black Veil Brides. I got goosebumps when BVB came out, it was almost like I was there with her. They're a band that meant a lot to me (and still do) at a certain point in my life and I was so happy they were included. <br /><br />I feel bad for Simon though, he was so nice to Chloe when no one else was and he didn't even get a proper goodbye. <br /><br />Trent had his good moments but I still ended up getting annoyed by him. Why was he so upset over the possibility of her becoming a *word I'm not going to use so I don't spoil it*? It's not the end of the world. And that way she wouldn't have to give up as much. <br /><br />I'm glad that Whitney didn't become an Olivia, even though she gave me those vibes at first. It's good for Chloe to have a friend who knows what's going on. With that said I do miss her other friends. <br /><br />Honestly, I saw the family secret coming in the first book but it was executed well. I just didn't suspect her father would know about it. <br /><br />Now for the ending...that wasn't fair. She should've had a chance to explain. But I suppose that leaves a lot for the next book, which I'm eagerly awaiting. <br /><br />*Thank you to BookSirens for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

The first book in this series was really exciting. It was in a way an old fashioned YA like Twilight, but it made sure to fix the issues we had with Twilight. There was no stalking involved, there was no emotional pressure involved and the relationship between the main characters felt a lot healthier. I was therefore quite excited to read the second book in this series. Especially because there is a world full of mythology waiting to be explored.<br /><br />However, although the second book is never boring, it's very much suffering from the middle book syndrome. It's dealing with the aftermath of the first book and it's setting up the final book in this trilogy (I guess?), but along the way not that much is happening. There are two reveals, of which one was quite easy to guess if you're familiar with the genre, but there's most of all a lot of talking and a lot of personal drama.<br /><br />In a way it's quite impressive that a book filled with conversations, with characters keeping things from others, with decisions to be made that are not being made, never gets boring. And that's mostly because the characters are really interesting and complex and although from an outside perspective the witholding of information seems a little stupid, it's also easy to understand why the characters do it. On top of that there is a lot of tension between the different characters and they each have their own dilemma's and choices to make.<br /><br />And although it would of course be perfect if they could make those choices without being pushed in one direction by another, it's quite clear in this second book that in some situations that's impossible. Choices impact others and that means that others have to make their choices and you might not like the outcome of their choices. The entire process of conflicting emotions, of choices and consequences is written down very well and realistic. Just like the characters are asking the right questions and fighting for the right reasons.<br /><br />And after all the talking the book ends with a bang and I feel that a really exciting story arc has started now and that makes me quite curious to read the final book and to see how everything plays out and what choices eventually will be made.

Twilight meets The Covenant movie in this cute, fast-paced and addictive story full of magic, vampires and a coven of witches on the hunt for revenge. <br /><br />This second book in The Cursed series follows seventeen-year-old Chloe, as she’s lost her mother and been forced by the father that abandoned her as a child to move across the country to his new family. Grieving her mother and feeling lonely and miserable at her new snobby prep school, Chloe can’t wait to turn eighteen and get to decide for herself where to live. In addition to being lonely, she also has the feeling that she’s forgotten something important. But just as life takes a turn for the better, with high school hottie no. one, Simon Parker, asking her out for a date, her memories start coming back as well as two guys from her past. As if that wouldn’t be enough, the devastating family secret Chloe discovers in a box of old family photos, forces her to make the most devastating choice in her life – give everything up for the boy she loves or lose him forever?<br /><br />I had the pleasure of receiving an ebook copy of Eternal Choice from BookSirens, without having read the first book in The Cursed series. This second book can be read as a standalone, but I do believe that some parts of the story would have made more sense if I had read the first book. Now there were parts that were a bit difficult to fully understand without all the background information.<br />​<br />Nevertheless, I really rooted for Chloe at once and I especially appreciated that she was not just another version of Bella Swan. I loved that she had so much depth and integrity and that she was not swept away or feeling dizzy just because Simon Parker took an interest in her. I really enjoyed her fierceness and the bantering between her and Simon. And then the twist… not having read the first book the twist was so much more unexpected! I really enjoyed the turn to magic, with the vampires and witches showing up and the epic love story unfolding!<br /><br />I just have two minor complaints. The first one is that the story was a bit too unrealistic at times. And I don’t mean the premise that there are witches and vampires and old lineage curses demanding sacrifices of descendent in order not the threaten balance of things, I’m all for that! I mean things like getting into cars without hesitation with suspicious persons you know you can’t trust, or coincidences that are just a little too obvious. The second complaint is the second love triangle. Yes, there are two of those potentially… The first one was really greatly done and so sweet and understandable. But the second one felt so unnecessary and made me believe less in the main love relationship. If you’re willing to give up your life for someone, your aura really shouldn’t get all hazy red with lust every time you’re close to someone else. This brotherly competition was all a bit too much Vampire Diaries for me.<br /><br />But those two minor complaints set apart, this was such an entertaining and addictive read that kept me on the edge all the way through. And that cliffhanger! Now I can’t wait to read the next book in this magical series! But first, I need to read the first book (Eternal Curse) to get the full picture, I really feel that this book, and the series, deserves that!

Vampires and witches intertwine with curses and a bit of romance in a read, which never offered a boring moment.<br /><br />Chloe's not happy. After her mother passed away, she's forced to move to California to live with her father and new stepmother, leaving every friend and loved one behind. But she turns eighteen in another month and is determined to use that to move back to the life she loves. In an attempt to appease her father and step-mom, she agrees to start tutoring, but the student she gets is packed with secrets. When she meets his brother, strange flashes of what appear to be memories have her realizing there's more to her life than she thought. Soon, she discovers everyone has been keeping information from her, the kind which will edge her closer and closer to a choice between life, death, and love.<br /><br />I did not dive into book one first but headed straight into this one. And that wasn't a problem, at first, since Chloe starts a new life in this book in almost every way. Even her own past doesn't play a really huge role until about mid-way through the book. When her world flip-flops, however, it would have been nice to have read the first book first, since I did find myself playing catch-up. But even that wasn't a huge problem, and I enjoyed this one the entire way through.<br /><br />This has a lot of teen drama. Chloe hates her new life in California, misses her mother, misses her friends, deals with school like an outcast and yet, ends up with the hottest guy there chasing after her. So, cliches are in full spin during the first part of this one. And she acts like a teen with a bit of an attitude and lack of gratitude or understanding for her situation. Simply said, she came across a bit spoiled to me, especially since her step mom was very sweet and nice. That said, the book takes a very positive spin (on the intriguing plot end of things), when the two strange guys show up and start stalking her. Dark secrets and dangerous surprises knock the cliche pretty much out of the tale and allow more and more excitement to settle in. By the end, the spoiled teen girl is gone and a much bigger problem lies in wait. <br /><br />Fans of young adult urban fantasy with lots of romance...tip-toing into the reverse harem in some ways...will enjoy this one quite a bit.

Just finished the 2nd installment in this series. It was entertaining and fast paced. The storyline and character development were a little more in depth especially with Jax. Chloe is still a little naive, but all in all she’s likable. The addition of a few new characters was well done. The storyline was more creative in this installment and I’m enjoying the direction I think it’s heading. Still struggling with some similarity to Twilight, but the author is branching out into more of her own unique story now. <br /><br />I’m a little conflicted on the almost-love triangle angle though. A twin bond is just something you don’t mess with. I was enjoying the new friendship between them vs the slightly pushed conflicted attraction going on now. This is reminiscent of Stephon and Damon in Vampire Diaries. Another great reference but I really don’t want to see a mishmash of Twilight / Vampire Diaries because this author is too talented to fall into the copy cat category. If I see anything even attempting to imitate NIklaus from The Originals- (my most untouchable image of future vampire soulmate - my German Shepherd who I love dearly is named after him), I will cry with disappointment...lol. <br /><br />Overall, I found it be a really good read and I am continuing to be interested to see how the author further develops this storyline. <br /><br />Thanks to the author and Booksirens for an ARC and my review is honest and my own.

Chloe has now lost all of her memories of Trent and has just moved in with her estranged father, her stepmother and stepbrother. In spite of going to a wealthy prep school and being sought out after by the most popular boy in school, Chloe can’t wait till she turns eighteen so that she can return to live with her aunt and uncle. <br />Then, something strange happens. A new student shows up at Chloe’s school causing her to have strange sensations of deja-vu when she’s around him that she can’t explain. <br />Eternal Choice was even better than the first book! As I had hoped, we get to see a lot more character development especially with Jax (he’s really growing on me). <br />One of the aspects I enjoyed the most about this book is Chloe’s hesitancy to be with Trent even though she loves him. Chloe is one of the few young adult characters that seriously thinks about her future. Other young adult main characters treat high school as the summation of life, as if everything else afterwards doesn’t matter. It’s nice when a character has hopes and dreams of their own. <br />I can’t wait to see what will happen in book three. Eternal Choice ended on a cliff hanger and I just need to know what Chloe, Trent and Jax will do next! What can I say, I'm obsessed!<br />

After being left hanging in Eternal Curse I was very happy to receive the arc for Eternal Choice. Because now that Chloe was taken back to California with her father, after ten years of absence, she has to start all over. But although she misses her live with her uncle and aunt, she still has trouble remembering some of the details of her time there. During the story some things get more clear and without revealing the total plot: you will understand more about Chloe's background and the relationship with the Halstead family. <br />In this second installment you can see that the parallells between Twilight and this series are disappearing. Chloe's story takes some unexpected twists and turns. And also her feelings toward Jax are interesting: will there be a triangle relationship? The story is fastpaced and I think I read it in one sitting (and yeah... it was after midnight when finished...).<br />The cliffhanger ending isn't my favorite: because now I have to wait for Eternal Bond, and it kills me! But in all four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to FireChicken Press for providing the arc.

Initially this book started like so many others...broken family, teen forced to leave her school and start at the end of her junior year at a high class Academy with all the rich kids, everyone there hated her, and she had to live with her dad, his shiny new wife, and two year-old son.<br /><br />AND then it diverged from its seemingly ho-hum plot and the author took us on an adventure with witches, vampires, and a curse that only Chloe, our main character could break. There was only a couple problems with that. She knew nothing about it and she conveniently had her memories wiped so she was really of no help. She couldn’t even recognize any of the people involved.<br /><br />Our author describes the inner turmoils, hopes, and feelings of the main characters so well that you could almost feel the anguish and hope with them. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Is Chloe really the only one that can break the curse? And does she break it? I won’t tell so you will have to read it yourself!<br /><br />I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

when I first got a copy of the book I was so worried that I wouldn't get it and it couldn't be read as a stand alone. But that quickly changed. It wasn't confusing at all and though you know that something big happened in the first book, you quickly find your way and fall in love with the character.<br /><br />I almost finished the book in one sitting but, I have online school it's that good. The author has a good knowledge of her characters and their back stories are very intriguing, you immediately wanna know more.<br /><br />Suspense? Off the roof!and you are left in a constant cycle of 'and then what' .The plot is amazing, You think you have all the pieces and then something else happens.<br /><br />Leaves you at a cliff hanger though can't wait for the next book to be released. I haven’t been able to put either book, of this series, down!! Author, Kara Leigh Miller, has written another beautiful story ♥️ Each book just gets better and better!! This book added the addition of some new characters. Just like Eternal Curse, Kara has written likable and relatable characters. This world she has created is just uniquely beautiful <br />This book continues Chloe’s journey. This time, forced to leave Adirondack Mountain, and go with a father who abandoned her as a child, to a new town/school. She’s also forced to leave Trent Halstead. Chloe still handles her situation with grace and realism. Beautiful job there, Kara ?♥️ This book is extremely suspenseful, and really has you on the edge of your seat!! The events set the stage for book 3, which I can’t wait to read ?
