I fucking loved this book.

But then why did I give it two stars?

Well, it sucked. It was absolutely terrible. But it was just so damn hilariously bad that I had to read the whole thing. I could not put it down. It was so bad that it was funny. There was literally no plot, but I found the whole damn thing un-put-down-able.

Let me give you a summary of the entire book through dialogue that resembles the actual dialogue of the book (btw, lots of cussing, strong language, sexual wording, and the entire book is spoiled):

DON'T READ THE REST IF YOU'RE AVERSE TO CUSSING, SEXUAL STUFF, AND SPOILERS!!

Aria: *I am going to haphazardly provide some narration to the reader so people are really confused when they begin the book.
Hecate was a witch goddess? She gave birth to some girls. Freya, one of these girls, is the mother of Aria and her 15 sisters. Freya likes to fuck around, so each set of twins (because of course she gives birth in sets of twins) has a different father. Freya's sister, Aurora, basically raised the sisters. Aria has a twin sister named Amara who is missing.*

Aria's sisters: "Oh, I'm so ready for some good dick as we return to Haven Falls, our old home, even though we're returning to find Aria's missing twin."
Random guy: "I'm Knox, the new king. And damn, Aria, you need to get fucking bent over and fucked."
Aria: "I don't like you, Knox."
Knox: "Well, that fucking sounds like you need to get bent over and fucked."
Aria: "I'm powerful. Look at me uproot some trees. But I don't actually know why I have this power since my mom got some good dick from a random guy but we don't know who he is. All my sisters know their father's form and therefore know what kind of creature they are. But I don't know who my father is."
Knox: "Smells like you need to get fucked."

Aria: *enters her house and slips on some blood*
Knox: *magically appears* "Stop touching yourself. You're spreading the blood around. It's making me horny."

Aria: *exists for a while*
Knox and lots of other men: "Smells like you need to get bent over and fucked. Your virgin pussy needs some good claiming. I will also now use the word 'breed' sometimes to really make you uncomfortable."

*time passes and we begin to think that Amara, Aria's missing twin, is actually an evil bitch based on what we hear about her exploits*

Knox: "I'm going to claim you, Aria. I'm going to put my name on your pussy so that everyone can smell me on you, and then they won't fuck you. Because everyone wants to breed that virgin pussy."
Aria: "All right."
Knox: "I still hate you by the way. I hate all Hecate witches. If someone powerful didn't want you alive, I'd bend over and fuck you, and then get rid of you. Probably by decapitation."
Aria: *at some point, goes to Knox's library and sees pieces of stuff from Norvalla, one of the Nine Realms that Aria really feels a connection to. (did you guess that her father is from Norvalla and so is Knox?)*

*Aria needs to lose her virginity for a blessing spell to protect her and her sisters*
Knox: "My brother Brander should take your virginity because he's safe and I hate you."
Aria: "Sounds like a solid plan."
Brander: "I'm kinky so I'm going to handcuff and blindfold you."
Aria: "All right."
*Aria is handcuffed and blindfolded. Someone starts touching her. It smells like Knox. She hopes it's Knox.*
Someone: *removes her blindfold*
Aria: "Knox? You're the one that's been touching me?"
Knox: "Of course. You need to get bent over and fucked, and I'm not letting anyone else do that."
*sex*
Knox: "I can't do this. You worthless bitch. I hate Hecate witches. Get fucked."
Aria: *is hurt by these words*

*aside*
Knox had a mate named Liliana and a son Sven, and Hecate witches basically killed them both really aggressively.

Everyone: "Hmm, we really are dying to know what kind of creature Aria is. Because unlike her sisters, who know who their father is or at least what kind of creature their father was, Aria doesn't."
Aria: *leaves Knox's house after being really hurt by his words after he took her virginity. She literally gets blown up by a car bomb? She catches on fire, but is not hurt by the fire*
Aria: *becomes a creature (who is untouched by the fire and really horny. no, those aren't related things but those two really define her whole personality)*
Knox: *turned on as fuck*
Aria's creature: "Ah, yes, I am free. I must now find a good mate. Hmm, Knox looks like a good mate. Let's go get that good dick. I really want that big cock."
*Knox and Aria's creature fuck*
Aria returns to herself and her creature goes back inside or whatever: "What just happened? I can't remember."
Knox: "Your creature is super powerful and tried to dominate me, but I'm the dominant one. Come get this good dick."
Aria: "No! I hate you."
Knox: "I hate you too, little witch."

*a wolf dies. (actually that might have happened earlier) The wolf alpha, Fallon, wants to dominate Aria.*
Fallon: "I'm going to rape you, Aria. I'm going to rape and mutilate you because I want that good pussy and I'm an alpha wolf."
Aria: "Don't be stupid, Fallon. I have some random creature inside me that can easily dominate you."
Fallon: "Nope, I'm going to rape and mutilate you."
Aria: *kicks his ass and then bites him on the shoulder*
Fallon: *is in severe pain but is turned on by the bite and comes on the floor?!?!???!?!*
Dimitri, another wolf: "Hey remember me, your childhood friend? You're really sexy now. I'd love to claim that good pussy."
Dimitri: "Oh by the way, I'm the alpha now, since you, a woman, dominated the current alpha, Fallon. Therefore, he was weak and I took over."
Aria: "Okay."

Aria: "Wow, my creature is powerful."
Knox: "Yeah, and she likes this good dick."

Aria's sister Luna: "I got pregnant by some random wolf, but I'm giving birth early because of complications."
Luna's babies are boys and Hecate had cursed her line to never give birth to boys. So the boys are born faceless and dead
Luna: "I hate you, Aria, you fucking whore! Dimitri, the father of my babies that I kept hidden from everyone, likes your good pussy for some reason!"
Aria: "Bitch, I never fucked Dimitri! Only one man is giving me good dick and that's Knox! Get fucked!"

Aria: *goes to Knox's house to escape Luna and Dimitri*
Aria: *becomes creature, but this time can see through her eyes and is aware inside of her*
Aria's creature: "Yo, Knox. I'm here for that good dick."

*later*
*Amara, the evil twin, kidnaps Aria*
Amara: "Hahahaha, Aria. You stupid bitch. I've always been jealous of you because you're so powerful. So I went and fucked a creature from the Nine Realms named Garrett. He's my husband now. And guess what? He's a Minotaur. So I've been getting that good deformed bull dick."
Aria: "The fresh fuck? You're my twin sister!"
Amara: "Hahahaha. And now I'm going to give you to Garrett's father whose name is Gerald. Gerald is the Minotaur King. He's going to rape you, mutilate you, kill you, and then fuck your dead body. All with his giant knotted deformed bull dick."
Aria: "I am concerned. What the fresh fuck?"
Garrett: "Thanks Amara for the fire introduction. OOh, but your pussy smells good, Aria. Let me just finger you abusively because I'm a rapist."
Amara: *is turned on by seeing her husband finger her twin sister who she hates. Amara then sucks Garrett's dick in front of Aria. His huge knotted deformed bull dick. (This was repeated in the novel, so I am just doing the same for you because if I went through the pain then so should you)*

*it is time for Gerald to get that good pussy from Aria. Meaning, he's now ready to rape and mutilate her.*
Aria: *is dressed up for this occasion by her horrible sister*
Gerald: "Hello, I will now ruin you."
Aria: "You thought."

*Aria becomes the creature, kills the Minotaur King, kills her sister, all while the King of Norvalla and the High King watch. (The King of Norvalla and the High King were invited to watch Gerald ruin Aria.)*

Knox's brothers Lore and Brander: "Damn, Aria, you killed them. We're here to rescue you."
Aria: "Oh thanks." *returns somewhere*

Knox: "You dumb little fucker. I am the King of Norvalla. I am so angry at the fucking Hecate witches. I want to kill them all. For the past 500 years I have been murdering witches. I am now starting a war. Me and my large as fuck army against the witches. But I also want to bend over and fuck you. This need to fuck you is warring with my desire to kill you."
Aria: "I will hide my sisters with my magic. I will always choose blood. I don't care if you give me good dick."
Knox: "No, you will belong to me."

CLIFFHANGER

Thank you very much if you made it to the end of this review. I really appreciate it and hoped you enjoyed it. The book was horrible but hilarious to read, so I hope I gave you some enjoyment as well through this review.

And I'm out.

Wow, this book was definitely something. I can say with confidence I have never read a book like this before. Was it good? Definitely not. Was it terrible? The concept itself was terrible, but it was so comically bad that it eventually became entertaining

⚠️WARNING: The rest of the review will be 18+⚠️

We start off with our main bitch Aria returning home to Haven Falls with her sisters. Immediately upon returning to Haven Falls she runs into the ultimate fuckboy aka Knox, and right off the bat, their relationship is heated with both hatred and lust.

"I don't care who the fuck you are, or what last name you throw around. I own this fucking town. I will eat you for breakfast, little girl, and I enjoy eating pretty things."

"I hope that's not a metaphor for eating pussy! Aria is a virgin, and someone has to pop that overly ripe cherry!" Kinvara shouted

A completely normal thing to mention about your sister when you first meet someone new, right?!? That little exchange happened on page 13 lol and it pretty much set the tone for the rest of the novel. Unfortunately, Aria's virgin pussy ended up being a pivotal plot device throughout the entire book so there was no escaping it.

Things quickly became even more obnoxious because apparently, witches are horny motherfuckers so Aria and all of her sisters literally went into heat, causing all of the men to go batshit crazy.

“The difference between them and you is that yours is a virgin pussy, and the need to mount you will bypass most men’s moral compass. You are a rarity, and in the Nine Realms, men would track your scent and take what they want from you whether you wanted them to or not. Fix it, or I will.”

Like I said - no escaping the topic of Aria's virgin pussy ? This more or less continued for a large portion of the book because every character was obsessed with pheromones, scents, breeding, and having sex. In particular, the words "breed", "breeding", and "breeding bitches" were used probably a couple hundred times too many.

"I had no trouble ignoring the scent of breeding bitches, but Aria, her scent had me rock hard with the need to fuck her since the moment I smelled her in my domain."

Yikes. No thank you! Eventually, we do get to some actual sex scenes and I'm not going to lie... they were pretty great at first but then eventually became repetitive and OTT. Other than that, the writing was just sooo casually crude and I could not take it seriously.

“Yeah, but then she just zoomed on up the stairs and was like, ‘I need that dick, Knox,’ and you were like, ‘slide on down it, Aria.’ Meanwhile, we were all like, ‘who made the popcorn, because they’re about to fuck right here,’ but then you got all defensive and shit, and hid that honey pot as you plowed it.”

The last 100 pages felt like a completely different book and saved this from being a 1-star review. It sets everything up well for the sequels but I'm not going to read them.

I'm honestly not sure why I finished this book because I thought it was pretty terrible... but I guess there was just something entertaining about the awfulness that kept me going. I get there's definitely a market for this out there but I'm clearly not the target audience. Overall, I definitely would not recommend this book unless you know for a fact you are into this type of writing.

Steam Scale: ???/3
Swoon Scale: ❤️/3
this book went against everything i believe in
October 24 2020
What a fucking ride this book was!!!! The writing was superb and the storyline fabulous as well. I can't wait to read more from this new series by the amazingly talented Amelia Hutchins!!! This chick can write!!! I love paranormal romance with a passion because I love reading about all kinds of scary predatory beasties like the main character Knox!! He's a asshole anti hero if I ever saw one!! And even though He's a monster/beastie and I adore him!!! He is a true predator! He is set on revenge for the death of his son and the people of his kingdom by the Hecate witches over 500 years ago. Aria is one of the witches of the hecate line and said to be one of the most powerful. No one not even her sisters know who her father is except that he is a very powerful immortal so when knox walks right into the house of magic not only will he be the one to take aria's virginity and awaken the beast that has lived inside of her waiting for aria to become stronger theirs no going back and knox will not only meet his match in the new and powerful aria,he's about to find out that he's not the only alpha predator in the game and the battle has only begun. This book had it all action, fabulously interesting characters, dark humor and sexual banter with steamy erotic sex scenes that will have your kindle bursting in flames,it's one of those hot flash reads!!! My new obsession is Knox Karnavious!!! And his brothers aren't bad either!!! I would say that this paranormal erotica,so if you aren't comfortable with certain adult terms this isn't for you. But give it a try because it is done very well and I loved it. Can't wait to read book 2 Ashes of Chaos ! Until next time Luv's??

“What the fuck would you know about love, Aria?” “That when I find it with the perfect mate, it better be exactly like that,” I whispered, smiling sadly. “I don’t want no basic bitch romance, I want to rip it apart and watch it grow from the ground up. I want to build it so fucking fortified that no one can ever touch it because me and my guy?

1.5 this was a disturbing read stars.

The author is talented but the same story could’ve been told within (300) 1/2 the pages. The relationship between Knox & Aria became monotonous in its abuse. I’m not a fan of Knox. I honestly despised him & there is no redemption no matter the sad life event that prompted the behavior or the length of the books. I did enjoy the world & overall story arc. I suspect the next book may rate higher if we can limit the interaction between the H & h. It’s unlikely I’d recommend this series. This book was not a pleasant departure from reality.

Warning nearly 600 pages of Sexual abuse, derogatory behavior & language towards woman, emotionally unhealthy behavior etc.

Zero stars.

Because this is a joke, right? It has to be. The abusive, vulgar, crude, boundries-what-boundries, manipulative and downright rapey male and the “I get wet when i am being choked against my will, oh no” heroine is a fucking joke.

In what fucking universe is this shit sexy? How is intimidating, constantly ignoring the rejections and boundries of the other person and demeaning them by turning them into nothing more than a warm hole in front of an entire room of males fucking acceptable? Who the fuck reads this shit?

I should have known this book deserved its rightful place in a burning garbage bin at the ends of the world when the author felt the need to justify the “raw, asshole, caveman character” (author’s own words, not mine) at the foreword. Now, I can confidently say I have read more than my fair share of novels with a romance sub-plot, new adult novels and eroticas. I saw some ridiculous shit (Remy from”Real”, anyone?). Never once have I been so outright disgusted by both halves of a love interest.

The author spends paragraphs upon paragraphs upon yet more paragraphs (not even kidding) going on and on about how the hero wants to fuck the heroine, how many times and over which desk, how he is constantly hard, how he has blue balls, how his dick is bursting from the seams, and and and. She switched to the male perspective halfway through 40% to deliver us the sexual frustration of this poor man and to also effectively dump the backstory on the readers like a bucket of water.

Another thing that got major eye roll points is the übersexualisation of fucking everything. Have you any idea how many times the author used the phrase “bend over a desk and fuck” until the 40ish% of the book? Like a broken record on repeat. The nipples are always “hard enough the cut glass”, eyes are constantly stuck on lips, the heroines clothes. always. get. wet. RIGHT BEFORE she has a scene with the hero!! What a coincidence!! Except it isn’t because the entire 40% of the book that I managed to suffer through, which adds up to more than 250 pages, is consisted of almost exclusively the scenes for the couple. Scattered here and there are vulgar sexual suggestions from other male characters and descriptions of how the 15 sisters of the heroine are always horny. The heroine magically has hair nowhere on her body except her head (really, its her “condition”), is the most powerful witch to ever grace the earth, yada yada yada.

There is absolutely no subtlety to the writing, no elegance to the “relationship”, no play of flirting, just raw animalistic instinct. If written well and at a dosage, that may work perfect, too. Except its more than 500 pages of it. Overexaggeration doesn’t even begin to cover it.

If I was able to move beyond the disbelief that this book could be taken seriously by any living person, I would shudder to think what kind of example is being set and what message is being sent to (especially young) audiences who do not have enough sexual experience or partners. Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting every book out there should be a manual on safe sex and healthy relationships, but they sure as fuck should not be actively trying to pass off indescribably (and ethically) wrong patterns of behavior as the norm to the extent this book is doing and even suggest a character who displays them could possibly have a “character arc”!!

I am angry at this book. I got no fucking clue how it got rated this high, the shit’s the second wave FSoG. Go throw it in a dumpster fire.

Literally, what was the plot

The Next Big Talked About Series

Knox & Aria have been brewing since the release of Fighting Destiny. All the greatness we've seen throughout Fae Chronicles and spinoffs are ingredients too these two characters!

Amelia hasn't outgrown Faery, but if Flames of Chaos is any indication of what we can expect from the 9 Realms series, well, I'm gonna say Faery might have found it's match! To be honest people, I'm not sure even Amelia can top Knox and Aria!

Comedy!! Yes everyone, Amelia has become hilarious! I cracked up so many times I lost count! Seriously laughing out loud unable to read through the tears of laughter! Omg Amelia has lost her damn mind!!! It's so funny and her comedic delivery is perfect!

The storyline? that's tough to talk about without teasers! Knox and Aria play a cat-and-mouse game that has a surprise, untried by Amelia previously! The witches come home to search for their sister. Upon arrival Knox informs them the he is now King of their home. Aria and her sisters must now deal with a mysterious disappearance and Knox's interrogations and arrogance. The sparks that fly are metaphorical and physical regarding several situations!

Overall you'll feel like you've just met this group but you're already old friends! The only discordant melody I heard in my head throughout the entire story is how fast it moves! I would have personally loved to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel more of everything. Luckily, there's plenty more books in the series to give us that!

Amelia's best protagonist yet!

It's always pretty sucky when you just can't seem to appreciate a book the way most others seem to be enjoying it, makes you wonder, "Was I reading the same book?” This kind of trope would also normally really be my thing (based on the synopsis).

To start off... Two chapters in and the amount of times the word "f**k/f**king/f**ked" was used in just two small chapters, made me recall one of my gran's favourite lectures: "Swearing is a lack of imagination". I'm no prude when it comes to swearing, but it just lent a level of crassness and juvenility to a book which I thought would be a bit more mature in nature.

I'm also all for a enemies-to-lovers story, but I find it irritating when the characters are unnecessarily abusive and unkind towards one another.

I'm just going to have to resign myself to the fact that I'm one of the minority who just could not get into the book.

This book is definitely not for everyone.
It is dark, brutal, and graphic.

Actual rating: 4.5?
⤏ What to expect:
∘ Adult Fantasy Romance
∘ DARK. DARK. DARK.
∘ Witches & Monsters
∘ Dual POV
∘ Badass FMC
∘ Dark & Twisted MMC — A true Villain
∘ Sexual Tension & spice
∘ "Laugh out loud" moments
⤏ Tropes:
∘ Virgin FMC (she's not shy & awkward about it)
∘ True Enemies to Lovers
∘ "Touch her and you die" — off the charts
∘ "I hate that I want you"

Trigger Warnings: rape, torture, abuse, graphic violence & gore, graphic sex scenes, crude language, toxic behavior, violence against women
*There are some scenes where different methods of abuse are described in graphic details + some really gory scenes that some people would find disturbing.

Me: I want to write a short review of this book.
... turns out it isn't that short.

⤏ Foreword
Do you want to know how I stumbled upon this book? Booktok, fucking Book. Tok. And I'm still asking myself why, oh why nobody mentioned it is this messy.
If you want to read this book, you need to take it as it is. FICTION. Don't think, for one moment, that their relationship, or his behavior toward her, is healthy.
The writing lacks subtlety and finesse in portraying the "relationship" between the characters, instead relying on raw, animalistic instinct without any hint of elegance or playful flirting.
Nothing in this book is censored.
And I mean, NOTHING.
The males here, some of them, almost ALL of them, are toxic and they're all driven by one thing - lust.
There are a few characters really fucked up, and I swear this book is "wtf material".
So don't dive into it expecting a cute and sweet romance, cuddling and passionate kisses or I don't know, anything romantic. You'll get none of that.
What you'll get though, is madness. Sex scenes in almost every chapter, some of which I must mention are brutal AND nasty. These may be triggering for some people.

⤏ Plot/Writing & Worldbuilding
Despite the book being almost 600 pages long, it's fast-paced, and packed with action, drama and sex, so you'll fly through it.
The plot is mostly centered on the relationship between two ... creatures, but there is an interesting fantasy subplot that I enjoyed reading about. I anticipate that the following books will delve deeper into the intriguing subplot introduced in this book, as well as develop the main character's story. I'm excited to see where the author takes these storylines in the future.
While the worldbuilding was decent in this book, I hope to see it more thoroughly explored in the next installment.

⤏ Characters
∘ Knox

"I am the wolf that hunts the lambs, and you are fucking delicious"

Knox, our main male character is a dark character, a monster in a human body, arrogant, self-centered, and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty if that means achieving his goal.
I'm genuinely intrigued to know whether he will have a chance for redemption or become one of Aria's casualties.
We get a few chapters from his perspective and I'll leave you a few quotes down bellow.

— "Aria was delicate. I wasn’t. She was all soft curves and smooth flesh. I was jagged edges; sharply defined sinewy, hard muscles. Aria was created of lace and innocence. I was all brutality and ancient."
— "She was innocent smiles and beauty. I was violence and ageless death."
— "Aria was pure innocence and I wanted to corrupt her in the most delicious, basic way. I wanted to debase everything pure within her and see what she did with it. See if she unraveled and liked the end result."
— "I wanted to set the little bitch on fire and watch as she burned; to see what the fuck stepped out of the ashes when she rose still covered in the dust. I wanted to set her world on fire and fuck her in the ashes of it, watching as she realized just how ruined she was when I was finished with her."

"Don’t worry, I won’t let them get you. If anyone gets to break your pretty little neck, it’s me."
"You say the sweetest shit to me, jerk."

Just so you know what to expect.

∘ Aria

"I choose my fate and my chaos, and what I allow to happen to me is on me, no one else.

Our main character, Aria is a strong female lead and she is no one's bitch .
She doesn't let anyone order her around, define, control, use or shape her to fit their view or needs.
She bows to no one. She's a badass. She wants, she takes. She doesn't play around.
You threatening her family? You can start praying because she does not forget and forgive. She's smart, powerful, determined, and I personally love her.

— "Aria was all fire and about to set the world ablaze in her wake."
— "Those are the flames of your chaos, Aria. You could set the entire world on fire if you chose to do so."
— "You can throw me to the wolves… or, in this case, whatever the hell they are, but I won’t fall, and I won’t break. You will, though, Amara, that much I promise you."
— "I’m a woman, Knox. We only need a few minutes to rain hell down upon men. I wish you luck because you will need it. I’m about to rattle your fucking soul and bring you to your knees."

⤏ Romance
These characters are true enemies, they strongly hate each other and are intent on destroying one another, so don't dive into this expecting a cute love story.
Knox & Aria are a twisted match and I expect they have a long way to go until their hatred will turn into something more, IF it ever does. However, there's no denying they are attracted to each other, but lust does not equal love.

⤏ Conclusion
So this was it. While the book has a pretty good plot and strong characters that kept me engaged throughout the story, there are also those others factors to consider before diving in. Overall, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I recommend this book if you are looking for a dark fantasy smut and are not easily triggered.

❖ A few other quotes I liked:
— "I felt his need to learn every detail about my body. The need to bury himself so deep within me that I’d scream for him was violently exposed in his gaze. It was a raw, animalistic need that I shouldn’t want, and yet I did."
— "You’re wrong, King of Lies," I said, smiling impishly. "I am no weakling, and no matter how far you bury me in chains, I will fucking rattle them until they break, and I am free of you. You want to burn my world down? Fine, but you will watch me rise from the ashes."
— "Life is a bitch, and you can let it destroy you, or you can face it head-on and show that it doesn’t define who you choose to become in life.”
— "I’m not a lamb that you can hunt. I’m the woman who rattles your beast. I intend to shake your entire fucking realm"
