“If you have searched your own souls and found yourself worthy, that your hearts are thus pure.”
Another fantastic premise in the series! Events are getting more complicated for Magnus and his Marauders, a team so disparate with so different alien races and cultures! The story is absorbing, the plot begins to unravel and shows up surprising and unsuspecting revelations. It was mind blowing! It’s difficult to surface once you’ve dived in and immersed yourself into the story. If you're looking for an action-packed sci-fi thriller that hits between the eyes on page one and keeps rolling until the last page turns, this book will not disappoint. I recommend to start from book #1, it’s a fabulous series! I’m totally hooked! And, I want to read Void Horizon #4 soon!

Back to the Metaverse.

Well, Chaney & Hopper have done it again! I must admit to liking sf where new dimensions are discovered with lots of cool new tech and weaponry. Magnus and Awen meet up again and Awen takes on the job of educating Piper in the way of the Unity.
Magnus, with the help of Rohoar and Abimbola, draws together a mixed bag of humans, Jujari, and other humanoids from their galaxy. They all travel to the meta galaxy where they hope to remove the threat of the recon forces left at Ithnor Ithelia by Kane. They first travel to Nieth Tierness, a second planet in the system, and set up training facilities there. Awen and Piper start training in the Unity with Awen caught by surprise when Azelon, the Novia Minoosh representative, advises her that there are more levels to the Unity than she had realised.
The biggest surprise is the reaction of Rohoar when he arrives on the planet.
I love the interaction of the ‘bots with the humans and the humour that weaves through the story. It balances well with the action.
Highly recommended. All ages.

September 2021
Quickly re-read this so I'd know what was going on in the fourth book, Void Horizon. You really need to either marathon this series or re-read things to remember.

November 2020So we've amassed a team of characters now. The stakes have risen and when they die, it's becoming a big loss. This series has taken a bit to really gain momentum, but we're there at this point. It'll be interesting to see where it goes next.

My only complaint is that these books end so abruptly! Fortunately the next one is always coming right up, so there's no wait.

And RC Bray is fantastic on audio.

Don’t miss this series, a great story well written...

This story is too good to ruin with spoilers. Sufficed to say, this instalment is at least as good as the previous two. All 3 are in my top 5 favourites this year. My only complaint? I have to wait until October for my next fix!

So completely awesome!

Every time I reach the end of another book in this series, I keep coming to the conclusion that it's the best one

Everything heightened again! More character development, which I'm always a fan of. Even in hard military sci-fi, it's nice when the characters are well developed. And the humour and action went up a few notches as well. I've never really been into series like this before, but 'Ruins of the Galaxy' has me totally caught up in everything. When I'm halfway through a book, I'm already excited about the next in the series.

Of importance, I also find, that although this is book 3 of a series, you feel satisfied with the ending. There's always a taste for more, but you can put the book down at the end for a breather feeling you got what you wanted, and then prepare for the next book.

Amazing world I can’t wait to get back in to

I love the rich world both authors have setup especially the multiverse interactions and mystery alongside the Novia Minoosh is a real nice mystery twist. Also don’t if it’s decided or not but really hope magnus ends up being with both Valerie and Awen because to me feels like they complement each other in both strengths and weaknesses and all three are an essential part of Piper’s life now. PS. Keep those Rohar and Piper scenes coming its one of the best character relationships in this story!

Getting better as it progresses

To be honest, it's close to 4* for me, but not quite. The story has started to move at a much faster pace and some of the action scenes are truly mesmerising
The baddie has become a lot more defined and a few more clues have been dropped as to why he is doing what he is
Magnus is coming into his own and Awen has a few surprises for everyone. I'm waiting for the sting in the tail that will hit Magnus, when the 2 women realise they both want him

At the start of Book 3, Magnus finds himself a fugitive from the Republic and on the run. Surprinsingly though, he has already found himself in charge of a new team, with an eclectic set of factions all deciding to join his cause in trying to defeat Kane. Abimbola and his Marauders immediately join, always spoiling for a fight and reading to kill Repub Marines. Dutch and her squad have become very loyal to Magnus and will follow him anywhere, and knowing that it will end their careers, eagerly join him. The biggest surprise though, is when Rohoar, Mwadim of the Jujari, pledges himself to Magnus for saving his son, Victorio and joins his cause with several of his warriors, bringing with him his flagship “The Shining Bright Star of Mwadim Fulank over a Thousand Generations”. Rounding out the team of course, is Valerie and Piper. Valerie has become quite attracted to Magnus, and it is obvious she has significant feelings for him.
After their deadly run-in with So-Elku, Magnus has gone to find Awen, and locates her, joining forces and bringing the two groups (Magnus’s team, and Awen, Ezo, Sootriman and TO-96 along with Azelon), all together for the first time.
The two of them and their respective teams sit and decide on a course of action, one that leads them back into the Multiverse and back to Ithnor Ithelia. Here, with the time dilation, they hope to train not only a new strike team, but Piper, so that they can then reach out and try and achieve a range of strategic goals in the hopes of stopping what appears to be some dangerous things that are unfolding in the Galaxy around them.
Meanwhile, as they make their plans, in other parts of the story, we also get to see Admiral Kane, snippets of his story, as he continues to fall further into darkness and the creature that inhabits him – Moldark…
This is a clever, intense, Military Sci-Fi story with aspects of Space Opera. The character work is exceptional as we follow multi major and minor characters to understand the flow of events. The story continues to be told primarily through the eyes of Adonis Magnus, a (now former) Republic Recon Marine, who after losing nearly his entire unit, his eyes, and everything he held dear, has instead of falling to pieces, rallied under the strength of those that are with him, and the belief he has to stop Kane.
Along with Magnus, we continue to see the development of Awen, as she uncovers the hidden powers of the Novia Minoosh, and their discoveries within the Unity. Awen is growing in power, and it is amazing watching her learn about the Unity, but also watching her interact with Piper. Piper is something else, beyond any of the Luma, and is a fascinating character. Her love of Rohoar and her ability to see past such a fearsome warrior, to look inside him and see the true character he is, and so easily attach to that warm, honourable being is amazing to behold.
Whilst the teams form on Ithnor Ithelia, with incredible bonds, healing injuries, and growing amazing relationships, we also see the flip side, in which Moldark takes over Kane, and begins the systematic control of the Republic fleet. His power is dark, evil, and relentless.
This third book is where the players are setting their pieces on the board, getting ready for the next major part in what is going to be a major conflict between Magnus’s troops, the Luma, and Moldark’s forces, along with Moldark continuing his assault on the enemies of the republic.
An absolute must read in what is going to be a pivotal moment in the series, before the galaxy is once again plunged into war. This continues to be one of the best Mil Sci-Fi series that is on the market today, with a gripping storyline, extraordinary characters, world-building that is outstanding, and a sense of overall awe about the story that captures you, so you can’t put the book down.

Great Story

Well another great storyline with our favourite heros. Looking forward to the next book with more action and banter. Totally loving the fact that a 9 year old girl is going to be the big boss lol
