I went into reading Her Vampire Husband expecting it to be much like Kiss Me Deadly—not amazing, light paranormal romance. I think my opinion on the book benefitted from this, but I do also believe that it was a much better offering than Kiss Me Deadly by the same author, Michele Hauf.

Blu Masterton is a werewolf princess with her knickers in a twist because her father has arranged to marry her off to old and powerful vampire, Creed Saint-Pierre, in order to form a tentative truce between the werewolf and vampire nations. Creed Saint-Pierre isn’t exactly thrilled with the arrangement either but he sucks it up because he knows it’s the right thing to do given the circumstances, and it will benefit the vampires by giving them time to put their plan into action. Of course, once the couple sets eyes on each other and share their first kiss as husband and wife at the top of the aisle, things swiftly progress into a blossoming romance between the two.

It was a little too swift for my liking and once they start snogging and bonking, they can’t seem to stop. It’s rapid fire sketchy love scenes all the way. We’re told that the hatred between vampires and werewolves runs deep, but these two get over their apparent dislike of the other’s species fairly quickly and with minimal internal struggle. It all happened a bit too easily to be satisfying. I was expecting a good fight, a battle of emotions inside the characters, or at least some more realistic conflict.

The story is also quite light on plot, and things are fairly predictable, although I did like the back story of Blu and the little historical notes on Creed’s life that are dripped in throughout the book. I liked the hero but feel he should have stuck to his principles a bit more and fought his desire for a little longer before playing lapdog to the heroine. The heroine, Blu, irritated me sometimes. The language she used and the way she behaved felt like a blatant attempt by Ms. Hauf to make the heroine appear very young and wild. I think it was the language that irked me most. If I heard the word ‘dude’ one more time I might have taken a seething dislike to the heroine.

The writing wasn’t stellar, but it was okay. There were a few moments where words just didn’t seem right and felt out of place, or the way she had worded it had me reading the same sentence five times to make heads or tails of it. There were also times when I felt the author could have put more effort into the description. The fight scenes in particular didn’t really grab me. I wanted to be able to picture what was happening but couldn’t. I also think some of the characters would have benefitted from better description. There’s a lot of mentioning the clothing of the hero and heroine, and some about the looks, but a lot of the supporting characters don’t get much description. I know from personal experience that you can’t describe minor characters in detail without getting bogged down, but there were characters in this I would have classed as secondary characters, who had enough air time in the book that they deserved better description.

All in all, I’m going to give this a solid three. I might have been tempted to up it to a 3.5 if I had liked the heroine more. This book also benefitted from being free on Amazon Kindle. If it hadn’t been a freebie, I probably wouldn’t have read it as I wasn’t tempted to continue with the author after reading Kiss Me Deadly.
Wow is basically all I can say. Michele Hauf can really write witty, snarky characters in the bundle! I was very impressed with Her Vampire Husband; it makes me want to seek out other books this talented author has written. Her Vampire Husband was so reality based with a hint of the paranormal that I was instantly drawn in when one of the main characters, Blu (werewolf princess), wore a lime green wig to her arranged marriage to a vampire (Creed) she never met. I will admit it, this is a romantic fantasy book, but since I have no romantic life to speak of as of this moment, a book like this can really keep a girl warm at night.

Her Vampire Husband is told from two points of view, Blu and Creed, and sometimes Michele Hauf also threw in two other different points of view. It is truly a great idea for another to use different points of view so that the reader can know what is going through the minds of other main characters (especially when the two main characters are as different as night and day). 5 stars I give this book because to be honest a book that keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning before falling asleep on my lap top is a book that can clearly hold my ADHD attention. If you have no romantic life to speak of, this is a great book to keep those long spring nights at bay until the summer nights come.

I heard about this books a while ago, maybe a few months and I was immediately intrigued by it. I when as far as scrounging all eBookstores and regular online bookstores to find it and when I finally realized that it had not yet been released I gave up for the moment.

About a week ago I found about Netgalley, where you can sign up and get Book galleys/ARCs electronically, so i got into it and at last was able to read it. I am absolutely glad I did.

Her vampire husband is first and foremost a romance and a great one at that. It starts with what it is usually the end of one and that is the great charm about it.

Blu is a werewolf princess, daughter of the packs Alpha and Creed is is a vampire lord and head of his tribe. The hatred between vampires and werewolves has seen too many centuries and as a way to start the journey towards peace, the preternatural council joins these two in matrimony.

Neither is happy and both are aware that peace will not be reached that easily. However, throughout the novel they start seeing each other beyond the prejudices of their races and discover happiness together.

Blu is a great character and I was quite horrified by the way she was treated by the pack and her own father. Seeing her grow and find self respect was great. Creed aristocratic ways were hugely disturbed by Blu’s joy and liveliness. A definitely opposites attract situation that felt more like they needed each other and completed each other.

They were so hot together, seriously, their romance and smexing were definitely the highlights of this book and it was great to read through it. The plot wasn’t bad at all and I could not put this book down, because I really wanted to find out what was going to happen.

This novel is not reinventing the wheel when it comes to Paranormal Romance, but its a fun, exciting read and a unconventional love story. I recommend this book to any PNR fan out there. You won’t regret it!

ust when I think I've read all there is to read in the vampire/werewolf animosity arena, I come across a book like this, which manages to shake up the standard tropes in a really fun way.

I had no idea going into this book that it was actually the third book in a series, which may explain why I did a couple of doubletakes while reading. For those interested parties, here's the series order so far, according to the author's website:

* #1 - The Highwayman
* #2 - Moon Kissed
* #2.1 - "After The Kiss"
* #2.2 - "The Vampire's Tango"
* #3 - Her Vampire Husband

"After the Kiss" and "The Vampire's Tango" are short stories available in e-book format from EHarlequin, I believe.

Anyway, back to the story! We arrive to the party in this book on wedding day, just as Blu is about to walk down the aisle and marry a guy who she's not only never met, but has also been conditioned to hate since birth because he's a vampire and therefore a mortal enemy of her race. Blu's opinion on the subject is decidedly for information only on the whole situation, as her rat bastard Commander of All Assholes father makes abundantly clear. Blu figures that she can hold out long enough for devious schemes to be hatched and, as long as she holds out and doesn't accept Creed's bite (even though she's supposed to) she'll be able to return to her old life relatively unscathed; it's apparent even from the beginning that Blu doesn't really believe that.

Creed, too, isn't all that excited about this marriage. He hasn't met Blu either and figures he'll basically be marrying the bearded lady; needless to say he's pleasantly surprised in that department. Creed has all kinds of...quaint...ideas about what life should and will be like once Blue moves in with him; Blu thwarts him at every turn, and sometimes it's even on accident!

Watching these two fall, kicking and screaming, in love with each other despite the seemingly ridiculous odds against them was very cute. I really enjoyed that, even when it became apparent that they both (remember, both of them) hadn't been completely honest, they were still true to each other- there were no long drawn out sequences where they endlessly blame each other and try to rationalize their positions; they find stuff out, they get mad, they work it out, and they move on. The pacing of the story in this novel was definitely spot on.

The other storylines of the book really pick up in the second half, and there's a whole lot of stuff going on, with the conflicts within the supernatural world, the plots and schemes, the issues of Blu's past (talk about Daddy issues), the bloodsport arenas, you name it. This is where my only real issue with the book arose- there are a lot of related characters who don't get a really thorough introduction, and some of their prejudices meet you right at the front door. I did own up to not knowing that this wasn't the first book in this series, though, so if anything this issue just piqued my interest in the other, previous books.

All in all, this is an enjoyable book that not only earns its Scandalous Book wings, but has an interesting story and genuine feelings all worked in to boot.

Overall Grade: A-

Read more reviews at What Book is That?

It's an arranged marriage of enemies to try and form peace with the nations. Creed the older, refined, sultry hot vampire and Blu the young, eccentric werewolf with a love for wigs. The first half of the book sucked me in, pun intended, with the great character development of both Creed and Blu and how their relationship unfolds as husband and wife. It was funny and well developed sexual tension between the two. Then bam, at the halfway mark out of no where, they are admitting their true love for each other and it went downhill from there. It truly felt like a new writer had taken over the second half of the book. It was a cheesy union between Creed and Blu after the "I Love You's" were admitted and a cheesy ending to form peace between the vamps and wolves. What started as a hot and intriguing story that had me well invested in the characters ended as a disappointing, meh moment for me.

Very typical of Michele Hauf's novels, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Personally, it just didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, the love story was great, and the us vs. them mentality that they ended up with was just delicious.

I just had a lot of trouble identifying with our heroine. A supah hottie werewolf princess with an attitude problem, a psycho ex-boyfriend, and a penchant for colorful wigs -- not really my thing.

Had everything that all the Hauf novels I've read have had -- starcrossed lovers, tons of (annoying) grudges being held by pretty much everyone, wild sex with shape shifters and/or magick all over the place, a good chunk (no pun intended) of violence, and at least one TSTL moment.

Overall not a bad way to pass an afternoon, but I'll likely pass it on rather than keep it.

3 Stars.

Her Vampire Husband – Michele Hauf

She may resist his bite, but she can't resist his charms…
Werewolf princess Blu Masterson won't allow her seductive vampire husband to consummate their marriage with his bite, marking her forever. Alone in a secluded estate with her sworn enemy, Blu curses the marriage arranged to bring their rival nations together, especially since Creed Saint-Pierre calls out to her most feral desires.

When Blu uncovers her pack's secret plot to destroy the vampire nation—and Creed—she is forced to confront her growing feelings for her sexy undead husband. Will she choose the only life she's ever known or accept his vampire bite?

Arranged marriages are so last year, at least that’s what Blu Masterson thought until her father arranged for her to marry Creed Saint-Pierre. She is expected to marry a long tooth, a mortal enemy of the werewolves in a quest for peace. This marriage is supposed to bring both factions together and stop the wars between them.

I love Blu, she is smart, very sarcastic and not afraid to go after what she wants. She is a rare, female werewolf who hides behind brightly colored wigs and outlandish clothes. She has endured years of abuse from members of her pack and had to developed defense mechanisms to survive. She is the total opposite from her “long tooth” husband.

Creed is over 900 years old and loves the finer things in life. He drives expensive cars, wears designer clothes and is the local Tribe leader. When Blu moves in, she teases him that he is boring. As the book progresses you see him start to loosen up and enjoy life again. He enjoys her quirky behavior and will do anything to see her smile.

I like Creed and Blu as a couple. They complement each other, even though they are complete opposites. I love how they both changed their view of the “enemy” as the book progressed. Creed calmed Blu down and she loosened him up. They worked together when they realized that their marriage was no longer a farce.

This story is part of the Wicked Games series but can be read as a standalone. I read it before I read other books in this series and enjoyed it so much that I had to read the rest of the stories. It was nice to see how some of the other characters ended up together.

I loved this book. The romance between the leads is strong and the underlying political issues don’t distract from it. Ms. Hauf weaves it into the story in a way that draws you in and makes you want to know more. The ending was a nice surprise. The book is fast paced and I didn’t want to put it down. I read it in one day.

I highly recommend this book. I give this book 4 ½ Flaming Hearts.
