I am a fan of Theodora Taylor and have enjoyed her creative and unique approach to stories. One of my favorite books that I return to every so often is Taylor's HER VIKING WOLF because of it's uniqueness and the story is pure entertainment. I am mentioning this to soften the blow for myself and anyone who reads this review-so here it goes. I didn't particularly enjoy HIS FOR THE SUMMER. There I said it.

HIS FOR THE SUMMER is a very quick read which is fine because you do get a complete story; however I just didn't enjoy most of the story that I got. The story felt off somehow. Mostly I can't see anyone agreeing to belong to a man that they don't know at all even with real and urgent financial problems. That's so far into dangerous that I didn't want to accept it. Especially with what Cera has to do once she agrees. Yes, there is a twist to the story but at the time Cera has no idea who has her. She blindly submits herself to a stranger who could do anything to her and no one would be the wiser. I mean blindly literally. She has to wear a blindfold when she interacts with her 'benefactor'. WHAT? You have no idea who this man is and you wait naked and blindfolded for him to use your body as he sees fit? No one even knows where this poor girl has gone. No friends, no co-workers, no one. No ma'am. That should go against your natural sense of self preservation. Danger-danger Will Robinson! And of course Cera enjoys it and feels a connection to this stranger immediately.

As for the stranger. The reader knows who he is and quickly gets a hint as to why he does what he does but it doesn't make much sense to me. What he asks of Cera is in no way his only option. He's wealthy, he's supposedly sincere, and he really hasn't done anything wrong against Cera so there is no real need for all of the cloak and dagger maneuvers. A simple direct approach could have been just as successful and more honest. If he really wanted to help her he could have paid off everything with or without her knowledge and she would have been unable to do anything about it. Once debts are paid it's not like Cera could go back and tell people to charge her again.

This did not feel, to me, like a Theodora Taylor story. At least not what I have come to anticipate getting from her. I am sad to say that this was not a good read for me.

You can find more from me at
•(♥).•*Monlatable Book Reviews*•.(♥)•
http://www.monlatablereviews.com/

As a Theodora Taylor work of Interracial Romance fiction, this book should have been a lot better than it was. Sad to say, but I found myself becoming seriously annoyed @ the 39% mark. Afterwards, I skipped through the book, just so I could find out what happened in the end (which left me feeling cheated in a major way). Since I still have a lot of mad love for this talented author, I'm going to end this review right here.

Giving this one: 2 stars.

I LOVED "His for the Summer!" What a very sensual read!

Cera is in a major bind; she's lost her job, about to lose her home and her half-sister, Dana is in need of funds for a high price school. A letter arrives with a check for $15,000 simply saying "June." Then another, "July" and to top that off someone had already paid off her college loan. Mysterious text arrive at her graduation ceremony telling her she is to give herself to this benefactor when a $2M dollar check is mysteriously appears for the month of "August" in the ... oh no, I'm giving too much away!

This is a must read, ladies and gents! It hot, sensual and the most erotic read in the series. Just flaming!

Oh and our hero, Gus/Tavo/Gustavo Martinez aka Benton was just too much in this story. He was not perfect but he was obsessed with anything, all things Cera.

5 Sensual stars *****

I loved the blurb and was very much excited to read this. But somewhere in Middle I lost enthusiasm. First of all I didn’t like how heroine gave in to the hero’s proposal so quick. No one was more surprised than me in this instance as I usually love a forced-blackmail love story. Second, hero claims he was in love with her all along.. yeah right! He was so in love with her that after he escaped he didn’t contact her for 15 years. Eventhough he could guess the situation she would be in. And their second chance meeting was pure coincidence. Again where is the chasing?
And lets not forget the unemotional, empty hookups. I was also creeped out knowing he hit on his sister in law in past as heroine and sister in law was xerox copies. I even had problem with heroine being a 30 year old virgin!
I have more complaints but lets stop.
Recommended .
From the first time he met her Gus knew that Cera was special to him. He would do just about anything to be in her presence. Then in one night everything changed, and life as they knew it would never be the same. Fast forward 15 years, and he see's her again, but after all that happened so long ago, he doesn't think she would want to see him, so he watches her from a distance. When Gus finds out that she's in danger of losing her home, he takes drastic measures to not only makes sure she has somewhere to stay, but he also take the opportunity to be a part of her life again. When Cera realizes what Gus has done just to be near her, will she forgive him and give their love a chance, or will his secrets tear them apart for good?
I enjoyed Cera and Gus's story. No matter how hard she tried, Cera just couldn't seem to recover from past issues that were not even her own. When she was offered the opportunity to start over with out having to worry money she took. I'm not so sure that the agreement she entered into was safe or smart, but when you're desperate you never know what you would do. Gus went to great lengths to hide his identity from Cera. I felt he went a little to far with some of the things he did especially since he was completely obsessed with her. Although I felt Cera gave in a little to easy to Gus, and I felt Gus was a control freak, I still felt the connection they had with one another. One of my favorite scenes in the book was after she found out who he really was and the make up scene between them. I was really looking forward to Gus's story and I wasn't disappointed.

This is shit.

DNF at 20%.

Is this author actually a Black woman? Where and why come up with these degrading scenarios for her protagonists? To whom is this supposed to be appealing?

A thirty year old, plus size virgin who enjoys the first time, blindfolded, prostitution sex she is coerced into having with the anonymous man who has purchased her body for the summer. A thirty year old woman who just finished her degree in Education and is crushing and infatuated with her john who does not let her see him nor hear him and only communicates with her via text. A stranger to her who somehow knows every little thing about her and reveals nothing about himself. Okay.

Utter. Shit.

I just want to read a book with some substance and sense...lawd.

I live in Miami and won't hold it against the author the inaccurate description of our poor public transportation system. What I will hold against Taylor is the unrealistic nature of the plot and certainly so in our modern time. Yes, desperate people do desperate things, but not this desperate and so blindly.

Very weird situation. I would say 3.5 stars

Ok, this situation started out really weird. He pays her to be his for the summer. And she agrees. Smh.

Definitely spoilers below.

But the deep emotional stuff and their past makes it a more compelling story.

He just went about it the wrong way. I understand that he hand a rough childhood but how he didn't even consider how basically forcing her into a place where she had no choice but to take his money in exchange for sex would make her feel like a whore at some point is beyond me.

I like how dedicated Cera is to her autistic sister. But I don't understand how she was ok with this situation. I don't get it. It just seems weird to me that she would accept his offer.

Other than the strangeness of the situation and how controlling and obsessed Gus is, the book is very hot! Wow! Very smoking hot. But weird situation. And he really really really needed to learn that you can't buy people like that. Not everyone is out for money. Sometimes you just need to be honest.

Hmmm

I am normally a fan of Theodora Taylor's books and enjoy reading them. I don't like to give mediocre reviews or bad reviews but sometimes you have to do it. However, this one was a bit of a let down. You have a male lead that comes off as weirdo and a female lead that is weak and unbelievable.

The problem I had with this book was it was improbable and I could not connect to the characters nor did I want to connect to them. I believe in Theodora and expect her next book will return to the normal firestorm level she has written with before.

Loved it!

Loved this book, this series has had me hooked from the very beginning. Gus and Cera where just awesome. The story was well written and quite unique in my opinion. The development of there relationship coupled with their past history was nothing like I have read before,to agree to the terms Cera did ,blind? Wow! I just knew I was not going to like Gus,but leave it to Ms. Taylor to have me rooting for him even if he was a bit of an a-hole. What I love most about this series is each story is unique but they some how fit together without being repetitious or seeming like the same as the others in the series (like some other author series I have read). Great read and now on to the next book in the series.Great Job! Keep 'em co.
