It took me eight days to finish this book. Not because it was boring. Not because it was difficult to read. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this book. It's just that I wanted to savor this story for as long as possible. The hero that Christine Feehan created in Malichai was a man who was perfect in his every imperfection. Sold by his mom for drugs, he grew up on the streets with his brothers, learning to survive and ended up becoming the most compassionate, patient, understanding person I've probably ever had the pleasure to read about.

In the military, Malichai was a soldier and a doctor. He put himself constantly in danger, rescuing wounded soldiers under heavy assault. He was relentess, tireless, courageous and dangerous. He was a GhostWalker, meaning he was enhanced through experimentation, giving him more gifts than were covered in this book. He was sweet and kind, always willing to give a hand, and extremely protective. When he's injured during a rescue, he's forced to take a vacation and ends up meeting Amaryllis. Immediately he suspects she's also a GhostWalker and when strange things start happening in and around the B&B he's staying at, it's either continue to ignore what's right in front of him, or contact his brothers and admit that he knows just what she is. Hopefully the truth doesn't destroy the love that these two are beginning to share.

This may be one of my favorite books by Feehan so far, for no other reason than Malichai. Honestly, he was incredible and I'd easily recommend this read simply for you to be amazed by its hero. The side characters, the heroine, and the plot were also amazing, making them icing on the most scrumptious of cakes!

Find the full (unedited) review HERE

This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from Berkley Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

*May Contain Spoilers*

Lethal Game is the latest release from Berkley and Christine Feehan and this addition is the latest towards the Ghostwalkers series. I am just in love with this series, I am not going to lie in that some books I have struggled with at times, but this book *sigh* I had no issues and didn't have darker elements like some installments in the past have had. There is so much goodness in these suspense books that she has built up in this series and I have truly loved the evidence of research Feehan I am sure does to craft these books because each book it shows this whether it's scientific or medical .....I am always pleased to see it happen.

The story sets off with blasting the reader into an action scene, where our hero is on a rescue team, he is part of the paratrooper team that goes in and rescues teams under fire and is also a medical doctor. On his current mission, his leg gets fractured while trying to save his men and barely survives. When his leg doesn't heal fast enough, and as a Ghostwalker, it should be healing faster than it currently is, his team sends him to California to heal up and be on vacation. Well, Malichai doesn't do so well on vacations, meaning he has NO clue how to even take them. He meets a young woman, who he is drawn to and realizes she must be a fellow Ghostwalker. At first, he isn't sure if she is on the run or could be an enemy out to hunt him down as he is a threat to Dr. Whitney. But discovers more about Amaryllis. Amaryllis has been on the run and escaped one of Whitney's facilities and has been at the inn for about a year. But when a mystery crops up, the danger around the corner and a sexy military man in her line of sight, her life isn't as simple as she imagined it would be. Now there is a terrorist threat, and it will take Malichai and Amaryllis working together to save innocent lives but along the way they discover a delightful passion in each other

What a fabulous addition to the Ghostwalker series and I loved every moment of this story. Now it wasn't quite as in my feels like the previous book "Toxic Game" turned out for me but it was a bit different but I really loved the mystery.... which there are two in this story. The first we have is the mystery of the terrorist threat and then we have the mystery of the damage done to Malichai's leg. There is more going on with it, and even though Amaryllis has psychic healing abilities, his team will have to come in and try to save his leg. So much intrigue in this story and even though there is suspense.....the tone of the story is solving these two mysteries. I just love a good mystery, it's my nirvana in romance, so I was hooked....line....and sinker in this book. I was on the edge the whole way through and this book (like ALL of Feehan's) was such a page-turner and couldn't get enough of the story and the way it develops.

The romance that develops was also unique for Feehan, and it is a bit hard to explain what was so different from some of her other books to be honest. Even though there is some element of the "instant love" connection that we do find in her books there is also more of a slowly built love between Malichai and Amaryllis. There is a level of trust that needs to be built between them and see that bridge form between these two was so beautiful. There are so many heartfelt moments, and *sigh* the romantic moments of chemistry and emotional connection was right on point. We get all the fun characters from the team including a surprise visit from some old favorites.....the Colorado twins Ken and Jack Norton.

Overall I was beyond charmed by Lethal Game.....a story so charming and devised in sensuality, thrilling dangers, and pure romance portrayed.....I guarantee you will fall in love just as this reader has! BRILLIANCE IN EVERY PAGE!

Lethal Game is the newest book in Christine Feehan’s GhostWalker series. And, I can tell you, I enjoyed every second of Malichai’s and Amaryllis’s story.

Malichai is forced on a “vacation”. Not ever taking a vacation or now how to act on one, Malichai is struggling to “enjoy” it. Until he starts interacting with his vacation hosts, which include Amaryllis as one of the staff.

Amaryllis is one of the GhostWalkers that have escaped. Living on the run, she never stays in one place to long…until she finds employment at the B&B in the San Diego area. Here she has found a home… until Malichai comes to visit and everything about her is drawn to him.

I have to admit, this might be one of my favorite reads in the GhostWalker series. Lethal Game has a great plot, amazing hero and heroine and even fabulous secondary characters. But it doesn’t end there. The steamy, sensual character connections are met with the perfect balance of true, and deeply imaginative storytelling.

I received this ARC copy of Lethal Game from Berkley - Penguin Random House LLC. This is my honest and voluntary review. Lethal Game is the latest outstanding continuation of Christine Feehan’s action-packed Ghostwalker series. This novel delivers even more action and adventure with main characters Malichai Fortune and his wonderful heroine, the mysterious Amaryllis, as the lead couple.

Malichai’s team is a branch of highly specialized and enhanced men and women who go in and rescue soldiers injured or captured behind enemy lines. Malichai is badly injured in a recent rescue mission and he is ordered to take a vacation by his team and family. It was sweet when a reluctant Malichai describe who his shooter grandmother and force of nature, Nonny, along with his teammates’ triplet toddlers randomly picked a bed and breakfast in San Diego near the ocean for Malichai to rest and recuperate.

As fate would have it, Malichai meets waitress Amaryllis at the B&B and immediately he is drawn to her and suspicious as well, thinking that Amaryllis may be one of the nefarious Dr. Peter Whitney’s experiments, orphaned girls Whitney acquire, enhanced, experimented on, and chemically paired with Whitney male enhance specimens.

Regardless of his initial apprehension, Malichai and Amaryllis make a wonderful couple and team. I was rooting for this couple the entire book. I enjoyed every aspect of Lethal Game because the story and plot are a perfect blend of action, suspense, and romance. Very highly recommended!

2 Bummed Stars

Malichai is forced on a vacation, and has no clue what to do with himself, than is until he starts the lovely Amaryllis, who is one of the staff at the B&B he is staying at. Amaryllis is a GhostWalker, she escaped and refuses to ever be in the clutches of those who trapped her. that have escaped. She never stays in one place to long, drawn to Malichai the urge to run when she realises who he is strong

I enjoyed the first books in the GhostWalkers series and do re-read on occasion, but sadly I can't say the same about this. The MCs lacked a sizzling connection, the story felt too similar to the books that had come before, and I just wasn't drawn in.

99p on amazon.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The sixteenth installment of the Ghostwalkers series, Lethal Game was full of enhanced super soldiers, political plots, family, and love. Some would say I have no business jumping into a series at #16, and they could be right, but when I read the synopsis I was intrigued and wanted to give the story a chance. The author does a great job of informing any new readers to the backstory of Ghostwalkers, scientifically enhanced soldiers, without info dumping. I was completely locked in when the story started off with Air Force para-rescuers, Malichai and Rubin, set down in the mountains of Afghanistan as they help rescue a group of injured soldiers pinned down. Malichai and Rubin's powers are revealed as they telepathically speak to each other and have super strength and speed. Malichai ends up getting grievously injured and is forced to take some vacation time, this is when he meets our heroine.

He was dangerous to her in more ways than was good for either of them.

Amaryllis is also a Ghostwalker, one that escaped from Dr. Whitney (the mad scientists behind enhancing humans) and is on the run. When Malichai ends up staying at the bed and breakfast she is currently working at, they both sense something in the other. Their attraction was instant and although they both were a little wary, it was around the 30% mark that these two were pretty much already together. I missed more of an emotional growing attraction and some of the push/pull that can happen. Along with Amaryllis being on the run from Whitney and an enhanced soldier named Owen that feels Amaryllis needs to be punished for showing him up, Malichai and Amaryllis seem to have stumbled upon a planned terrorist attack that is headed by individuals in their own American government. I thought this plot was completely unneeded as it confused and clogged the story at times.

“I pay attention to detail because you count. You matter.”

Falling in love with Amaryllis and trying to ferret out the terrorist plot, Malichai is also dealing with the injury to his leg that just won't heal. This is where the author brings up past characters from the series and some past plot threads. I still never felt overwhelmed but around the last 20%, it is pretty much full on a collection of series characters and some particular angst following a past couple. Frequent readers of the series will probably enjoy revisiting them but I wanted more of a focus on Malichai and Amaryllis. They worked well together but the quickness that they got together and then lack of focus on them, made this feel less like a romance than a Ghostwalker book. The story also had a tendency to get very repetitive, a lot of character inner dialogue would then be repeated as outer; a good amount of editing needed to be done to clean this story up.

“Baby, you aren’t hearing me when I talk to you. I’ve been all over the world. In just about every country. I’ve looked for you. I’ve actively looked for you. I didn’t think you actually existed. There is no way, after finding you, that I’m going to wait to tell you how I feel. I know the real thing because I saw so many others who weren’t. You’re right for me. You’re always going to be right for me. Now, or ten years from now. It won’t matter. We fit. I told you this already.”

Amaryllis and Malichai's romance developed too quickly for me and the terrorist plot felt jammed in but the overall theme involving how humans become Ghostwalkers was interesting. With groups of Ghostwalkers living in Montana, San Francisco, and Malichai's in Louisiana, I'll have to go back to the beginning and read about how it all started. With two women who escaped with Amaryllis still out there and some fellow Ghostwalker brothers of Malichai needing their own heroines, this series looks to still have threads to follow.
Hummm, haven't started this yet. I have a feeling that it will be much like the last 5 or 6 books. More of the same with the "good" Dr. still on the lamb. I love how on another big series the bad guys changed out every three or four books. Let me know if you read this before me, what your thoughts are. <<<<< ------ SHUT THE FRONT DOOR WAS I EVER WRONG !

REVIEW:

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ I LOVED THIS ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱
FIVE FREAKING AWESOME STARS !!

Ms Feehan is back with a solid plot. The story unfolds at a great pace and holds your attention for the entire ENTIRE book. After the last few books in this series (all kind of similar) (really, the last few books didn’t grab my attention ) THIS book worked for me. Fast paced but also has a great suspenseful side. The secondary characters were great. They were all easy to get to know and they made the book really work well.

All of the books in the Ghostwalker series are “love at first sight” plots. Each couple was genetically made for each other. This is something that Ms Feehan has to work around in every book. This EASILY became my favorite in the series after the first few chapters. It was hard to put down, I didn’t want the book to end. The beginning of the book starts out with an explosive action scene. It sets the pace for the entire book. You are treated to multiple mysteries and great dialogue.

Milichai was simply the best. He had such a wonderful personality. A “can do” guy, that can accept what needs to be done to live good and right. Amaryllis a solid strong woman is every way his compliment.

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ ENJOYED EVERY SECOND ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱

I have to also say, this was unexpectedly more of a romance, A special treat from Ms Feehan. This was a step above the usual. More of a connection between both the H/H than in her other books.

Have fun, read this.. I hope hope hope the next book goes in this direction !

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ AMAZINGBALLS ! ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱
Enjoy ~
Simply Love Book Reviews

Christine Feehan is usually one of my go-to authors that I truly enjoy reading. Unfortunately, this installment of the Ghostwalker series did not draw me in. I really thought that I would enjoy Malichai’s story but honestly had a hard time throughout the book.

I was confused with the number of characters and the part that played throughout the story. They all kind of ran together to the point where I had a hard time keeping track of who was who and what they would mean to the overall story.

I also had a problem with the timelines. Everything seemed to have happened extremely quick between Malichai and Amaryllis. From meeting to giving her a ring was less than a week but then he talks about ordering the ring the week before. I was confused with the order of things. With how people just came and went or were killed. And then the hate then trust issue with Whitney. They fought to keep away from Whitney but then were working with him in the end.

The story line would have been really interesting if there weren’t so many people involved. I enjoyed the bantering between Malichai, Amaryllis and the other members of the Ghostwalkers. They threw a little lightness into a dark story. And, I would have love a little more of Jacy.

So, unfortunately, Lethal Game didn’t do it for me. I would have liked it a lot more if there were half the characters and if the story was spread out a little more than a week. I was thrilled that Amaryllis trusted Malichai and accepted her status as being part of the Ghostwalker family.

Review copy provided for a voluntary review.

I liked the second half of this a lot more then the first. It was very inst-love in the first half, but then the couple really goes through some hard stuff together and it solidified their relationship more for me. Really loved that we got to see lots of characters from previous books and catch up with their lives a little bit. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Ms Feehan has long ago proved herself a master of romance and paranormal to me, but I think I need to add suspense to the list. Lethal Game, definitely, has an edge of your seat energy woven through it. There’s a sense of 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' even as you’re immersed in fun witty banter and the building of trust and love between the main characters. A brilliant building of discovery and surprises beyond the obvious. This story grabs your heart in chapter one and has you engaged in Malichai’s future path through each page.

One of the brave members of GhostWalker Team 4 Pararescue, Malichai volunteered with his brothers to be enhanced genetically by Dr Whitney. He lives his life by the strength of character and generous heart he developed by choices he made on the streets of Chicago, long before he entered the GW program. They grew stronger as he bonded with his chosen family in the Bayou. Now he puts his life on the line to protect those on the front line, including innocents and victims. He puts other lives above his own and it’s a natural response in him. His one dream, which he feels is eluding him, is to find his partner, his angel. Until he is injured and goes to a B&B, chosen by a little girl, to recover. Here he meets Amaryllis. The one he’s been searching for. But why is she there and so many other questions come with finding her. And the nagging sense he gets that something isn’t right.

Amaryllis, one of Whitney’s Orphans, has been told she didn’t fit in with society, no one wanted her, she was a throw away. The the only way her life had meaning was through the horrid experiments meant to discover what could enhance the elite soldiers. Train to be an assassin to keep their secrets safe. She is intelligent and observant and had a strong survival instinct for herself and others. She escaped Whitney when she discovered the skills she'd developed took her off the assassin path and put onto the breeding, and worse, death path. She’d learned not to trust off the cuff but to observe and evaluate…so when the big tough looking man appeared, at the B&B she’d found refuge working in with the family who gave her a place peaks her interest, that’s just what she does.

I love the way Christine unfolds their relationship, true courtship and mystery solving. She shows, by example, with this couple and other occurrences, that pheromones and DNA pairing does not guarantee love. So much more is needed. They learn to trust and open up to each other. Love builds between them into a strong lasting bond. Its not just the spoken words, but the way they treat each other, people they know and don’t know. And how all those people treat them. There are truly some sweet, heart touching moments that have you sighing, how could you not love Malichai. Amaryllis comes to recognize Malichai as hers. She opens herself to a feeling of belonging and purpose, she never felt before, among the Team.

This is all woven through the warning bells going off in Malichai’s head and trying to figure out if they are for himself, those he loves, or something disastrous that could be threatening thousands. The Storyline slowly and beautifully unravels the dangers and concerns with the help of his team. Malichai, true to himself, acts to gather information and to protect even at great cost to himself. All culminates at the moment Malichai must not only face his greatest fear but charge right through it to save innocent lives. He’s all the stronger because he knows he has a partner in life no matter what, and family love and support, giving him determination that can make it through anything. He is truly one of Ms Feehan’s strongest characters and Amaryllis grows into the perfect match for him.

As usual, The Action and the romance are perfectly balanced for the story and seeds are planted for future books, even for the other Teams. And Whitney remains one of the most diabolical villains I’ve ever read!
