I thought this was a superb evocation of post-war paranoia in the South of France, as the secrets of the Resistance are laid bare and hidden truths are revealed. It's astonishingly modern in style, and reminded me of both Graham Greene and Douglas Kennedy in its merciless honesty. Highly recommend.

A bit like Mary Stewart from a male perspective...

Published in 1950 and set in Nice among ex-Resistence-turned-racketeers, this book gave me some eye-opening insights into post-War France and England, with nary an USian perspective in view.

Divertido.

a bit too predictable... could be why it took over a year to finish it.

Really enjoyed this book, picked up in a used book store in Bracebridge, Ontario. Graham has 27 books listed on the flysheet, this one published in 1950.
A story of great personalities after the end of WW2, tense drama, and fine first person narrative... however I see that it is not easy to find his writings...how unfortunate.
