Oh, For Luck's Sake

<img src="https://images.gr-assets.com/hostedimages/1572847663ra/28398752.gif" class="gr-hostedUserImg" loading="lazy"><br>In the swamp that is the RH Genre it hard not to step on a pile of smoking hot croc turd, but we who love this genre just keep going, keep persevering in the hopes that we find that one gem of a book. <br>So after quite a few duds in a row.... this book was an absolute pleasure to read, I mean who doesn't want a Bad-luck dragon.<br><img src="https://images.gr-assets.com/hostedimages/1572865943ra/28399746.gif" class="gr-hostedUserImg" loading="lazy"><br>With engaging characters, interesting story-line, a bit of humour, action and things to be revealed ...this was a fun read. Highly recommended even though, taste is a very personal thing. Can't wait for the next book - HINT HINT Shan !!

FULL REVIEV TO COME<br /><br />Pages: 348<br />My rating: 4.5<br /><br />I really liked this book. Some time ago a RHR gr friend recommended this one to me. It is a really good book. I enjoyed the strong FMC, who is a dragon shifter and you are in for a surprise the first time she shifts. I also liked the guys who hire her. Nyonia the winged goddess died. Her husband Detrius the Sentinel of Stone (who protected the creatures of earth and those of death) was the chief suspect. One year after Nyonia’s death the other Sentinels vanished. After the Breaking the poachers swept in and started harvesting organs and limbs from supernaturals to sell on the black market, so the buyer or consumer got more powerful. She suspects that her client was killed by Poachers, because her wings are sought after by other supes. But Cassie has a moral system and ethics. She hides Jane-Ann and calls a friend to sing a death song for her. We find out that Cassie was meeting her client to deliver a charmed item, a magical talisman but we do not know what it is.<br /><br />Then she leaves the place and bad luck follows Cassie. First her bike breaks down and then rain hits hard. She knows that when she uses her Luck magic, she will be first lucky but then bad luck will hit her too. We never get the whole story, why she has so much bad luck, only that she used up her luck in some unknown incident when she was a teen. And now alway when she uses her magic, good luck is followed by bad luck to keep the balance.<br /><br />She runs into Sonya who is a rich woman but works as Procurer and is her own boss. Sonya tells her to jump into the car. But Cassie does not want to own Sonya so Sonya tells her to go to Goblin Joe’s place, and meet her clients there and tell them, that Sonya can’t take the job. She runs into Goblin Joe and he harasses her to get the money. But the clients are there to save her unknowingly. She tells them that she is not Sonya but they think that she will take the job in Sonya’s place. Actually Cassie doesn’t want to do it. Still he guys are nice and drop her at her place and when they find out that Cassie houses supes, who were injured by Poachers, they make a generous offer if she does the job. She leaves her friends and the patient in her apartment with the money the guys gave her to follow the guys. They need a hiding place and go to Prudence house. Her house was warded by Durik herself warded the house. After Prue and Faith bless Cassie they leave to find an artefact. (Somewhen before leaving Cassie tried to meet the husband of her client Altimir to tell him his wife died. But she only meets his assistant Iwata a vampire who also seems to be his affaire.)<br />When they attend a function at the mansion where the artefact is hidden, they first have to attend the festivities. They have a winged Supe there. They give his feathers away, after they gave out numbers for this cruel lottery. Cassie has a winning number and she goes to collect a feather and give hope to the supe that she will help him. But he is so injured and malnutrition that he does not believe her.<br />After that they have the information they need to get to the artefact. On their way Cassie realises that the guys do not plan to rescue the supe. They near the room and are nearly found out and Dex and Cassie have to go out and Cassie insists on a rescue mission. Taking the supe and hiding him in the car they go back to help the others with the artefact. Cassie gets it but then the vampire assistant is there to take it. They have to flee and leave with the car and jump to Cassie old apartment. There her friends help the injured supe. Cassie meets with the husband of her client, who is faking to be devastated. She nearly believes him but when she does not do what the guy wants her to do the vampire assistant is there and she knows that he is in league with the vampire.<br />Cassie gets away. But they still need this artefact and somehow are able to follow the vampire to a place, where they want to free the Perileans, who are immortal and indestructible. They want to free them, so they will have all power. There are three Perileans: the Moon Rabbit, Broken Song and Unnamed Horror. The first one they want to free is Moon Rabbit. But Cassie and the guys want to stop them. They go to the island of the Nymphs. The naiads - water spirits - live there and live under the water. But when they arrive they find that the naiads were killed by vampires. While following the path Sonya finds them. Sonya and Cassie talk and Sonya decides to help them. Cassie goes after Altimir and finds him and Iwata. They are waking the Moon Rabbit up. And they want that the Moon Rabbit destroys Nyonia’s artefact. Cassie is able to get the artefact but can’t stop Moon Rabbit. She returns to her friends and they flee the place and go to the Temple of Nyonia, where the story started. There Will tells Cassie that he is the Priest of Nyonia. And Altemir is his half brother, who is the son of two sentinels. Whereas Will is the son of a sentinel and a priestess. The other guys also serve Nyonia and they want the artefact to resurrect the goddess. They only need a hair from Nyonia. Cassie takes the magical talisman she brought for Jane-Ann out and they see, that the magical talisman has Nyonia’s hair. Their next step will be to search out the Priest of Detrius and seek out his help. Cassie is not happy, as Detrius is the god of the dragons and she was tortured in his city by fellow dragons.<br /><br />To be continued in the next book.<br /></label>

Holy fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. <br /><br />I.. the world building I'm not gonna lie, was hella confused at first. Also it took me forever to realize one of her blessings was that she could think her way through a door into a different place. Really wish these things were said so it wouldn't have taken me so long. Anyways I loved the guys, I'm intrigued to see how she fairs with going back to her home land. Honestly I'm getting mixed vibes about the bullying like.. trauma? Just bad shit? Severe shit? ALSO does she mark Will and Alain? And very serious question okay I seriously need an answer... is Dex a switch???? <br /><br />Anyways, great story. Wish the second book was here but I'm just gonna vibe with my other RH's and cry until it comes.

The romance is inconsistent and too rushed with some of the stuff -- but the guys are a great blend and I like the main character's sense of self and attitude. Her dragon form sounds adorable and ridiculously cute. There are several action orientated scenes so we're fine on the interest in pacing and plot. The biggest win is the convincing humor, especially the second half. That restaurant scene? I kept laughing aloud. The scene at the end in the battle where Will asks where a weasel comes from? Yep, worth a read.

I’m looking forward to seeing where this one goes. The MC is scrappy and knows what she want, the guys are a variety team with a cranky leader. It’s fun and interesting with a hint of a trigger warning, likely to be unveiled in the next book. A slight daddy kink that seems to be an ongoing joke. Favourite character was Dex.

<strong>Loved it</strong><br /><br />This was so much fun! I am really hoping the author does provide a second book in this series. Although it confused me once or twice near the end with the Sentinels, this was a story with an engaging plot, likable characters, and interesting world building. There are so many possibilities with this story.

<strong>That was adorable </strong><br /><br />Super funny, light-hearted, awesome first book in a series. Who knew a gargoyle, a prude incubus, a luck dragon, a far and a Will would be such a killer combo!! I need the next book!!

<strong>So much fun ?</strong><br /><br />Had a great time reading this book. I mean, who doesn’t love a good dragon book? However, this is a dragon book with a twist, and OMG, was it good.<br /><br />The main quartet of guys are very dark and dangerous, yet once they open up to Cassie you see their personalities become more individual and quirky. There is a lot of action and adventure, with quite a few moments that show Cassie isn’t the bad luck dragon she thinks she is. I loved her loyalty, her courage, and her willingness to walk away from a payday to help those in need.<br /><br />The quest she embarks upon is a doozy - once she actually learns what the hell is going on - and her independent nature clashes with Will’s dominating attitude for some memorable clashes. Can’t wait for book 2 ?<br /><br />4 stars ⭐️

<strong>Fantastic!!!</strong><br /><br />I think I loved everything about this novel, from the FMC’s snarky inner and outer dialogue, to the variety of the men who eventually surround her. Nothing is quite what it seems and events are barreling forward to a world shattering conclusion. Delightful!<br /><br />First person, multiple POV, fantasy, slow burn RH<br />MMFMM<br />Rating = R (language, violence and heat, both present and potential).<br />Character age range = 24+<br /><br />Pros:<br />- Very well written.<br />- Highly inventive.<br />- World building is seeped through the narrative, not thrown in during some long winded monologue.<br />- Dex. Will. Rowley. Al. All of them. Love them all!<br /><br />Cons:<br />- Very minor editing issues.

The author did a very good job at world building all the while adding a ton of new and interesting elements not found in similar books<br />Storyline was well written and good suspense and unpredictability...<br />I loved all the guys because they are all unique and with distinct personalities <br />And not so much insta-lust which I personally prefer
