Donna Grant writes beautiful historical paranormal romances with a fairy tale quality to them, and this one is no exception. It's one of her very early pieces, first appearing in the 2006 anthology Phoenix Rising II, and sure to please fans of her magical highlanders.

Lucien and Isabelle are a good way to start off this quartet. I don’t normally love short stories, but I like that these 4 go together and am looking forward to reading about the next Sinclair and his mate.

Nice novella

This was an enjoyable novella that I found reminiscent of the Gene Kelly movie “Brigadoon”; an enchanted realm hidden from the world in the highlands and the lovers one from within and one from outside.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to recognize the person who is your mate? Life would be so much easier for all of us if that were possible. In this story it is for magic exists and makes it so for those under an enchantment. Lucien has searched for years and finally has found the woman who is his mate. Now he just has to convince Isabelle to leave all that she knows and return with him to Drahcir before time runs out. Not an easy task to convince someone that magic and hidden realms exist. The connection between the two characters was sweet and sexy and the story kept my attention. Though they only knew each other for a short time before they headed to the hidden realm the relationship did not feel rushed, it felt that it progressed as it should have. This is the first in this series, followed by the stories of Lucien’s brothers and their searches. I look forward to the next one.

One thing of note: this is the second work that I have read of this author where an editor was needed. There were a number of issues an editor would have picked up on. These were not bad enough to detract from enjoyment of the story but enough to halt reading while one made the corrections in their mind. As an avid reader I prefer not to have to stop to do so.
A quick, fun read, the start of a four books series featuring the four royal brothers from Drahcir, a city hidden in the snowfilled mountains, cursed by a fae to leave home to find their mates out in the world.

The first book is Prince Lucian and how he finds his mate Isabelle and their dangerous return to his home.

Historical romance, smutty fluff and paranormal.

Not much substance to this book, read it within a couple of hours. A few good nookie bits in it though!.. Not sure I will be bothering to read the rest of the series.

I like the idea behind this series. I have always loved Scotland and the idea that it is filled with mystery and magic. I thought that this novella was going to be too short to really develop the characters in any way to make them seem like real people as it is only 8 chapters; however, they are a decent size and I didn't find it wanting.

I liked both Lucian and Isabelle they were interesting characters with interesting back stories. If you don't like books that lean heavily on fate then this might not be for you; but, if you like stories that involve magic, lore and destiny then I think you will enjoy this novella.

Lucian is a prince in his kingdom that is cursed and hidden away in the mountains. He has a short time to find his mate and bring her back home, or the kingdom will vanish. It and all the people will vanish.

Isabelle is a simple tavern wench. She is saved by a stranger when she is set upon one night while walking home by four men. Though she feels a connection to the handsome stranger, how can she believe his tale?

Through trust and love, they make their way to the mountains, only to have a monster try to block their path - and he wants Isabelle’s death!

A short, quick read that’s really enjoyable. I want to gobble up the rest of them to see how they defeat the Tnarg!
It's ok

This tale is so short, you no sooner get into it as it's finished!! It would have been better to have read it without Audible!! My father was a Scotsman and if he'd heard the woman's attempt of the Scottish accent, he'd literally have rolled over in his coffin!!! The tale had promise, alas it did not make the mark!! Shame I'd bought all of the books, mind you, I doubt I'll bother actually reading them. Not really a book I'd feel comfortable to recommend if I'm honest. However some out there will enjoy it, I have no doubts to that....just not for me!!
