I'm not having much luck today with some of these books I've picked up on KU from the publisher 'Cobalt Fairy'; including this one. it has a very simple writing style, that frankly I can't read any more as it's doing my head in. This one's supposed to be a murder/thriller, but no - not going any further with it. All these books, both contemporary and historical, seem very similar in writing style and format and this review is to remind me not to pick up any more from this publisher. This story has mostly 5 star reviews, as do all the books this publisher sells, so that fact boggles my mind. Sorry to the author, but as there is only a cartoon drawing of the person, it probably won't offend him or her.

This was a fast-paced, suspenseful read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was original and exciting with characters that were realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a mystery thriller.

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

Wow Megan Corver, attorney is hired to represent a young man arrested for murder. As the case builds against her client Megan has a “gut feeling” that he is innocent.
The prosecutor has some compelling evidence and will it be enough to convince the jury of Oliver’s guilt?
First in the series, it is a first read for me by this author.
It won’t be the last. A little more bad language than my typical read, but gripping.
I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review. Here it is.

Reaper of Justice
By
Freya Atwood

This is the first book in the Megan Corver Legal Thriller series and Freya Atwood does not disappoint. Megan Corver is a young, energetic lawyer living in a small town where nothing high-power seems to happen normally. While visiting the town’s police chief, a man bursts into the police station and shouts, “They killed her!”. Megan and Jim, the police chief, soon find the murdered victim was Rosalin Mackaney, the ex-wife of the town’s mayor. Soon, a young suspect is brought into the police station, claiming that he was innocent but the blood on his body would seem to claim otherwise. While at the station, Megan receives a message from her office that there is a man that is insistent on talking to her, and only her. The man turns out to be the accused murderer's father and wants Megan to represent his son, Oliver, in court. With the cards dealt against her and a difficult case to defend, Megan recruits the help of some associates and friends, including her sister and a police detective who seems to be on the opposite side.
The characters in the story were well-written and fascinating, with inter-relationships intertwined to make the plot that much more intriguing. A suspenseful chain of events full of tension, twisted emotions, and some unexpected dark sexual situations, are all brought to an unexpected climax.
I enjoyed the action-packed legal thriller with its suspense and engaging story. I definitely recommend the book as a terrific legal thriller.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy
Following the introductory novella, Megan has completed college and is now a member of the bar. Megan is at the police station when an individual is being brought in for a murder. As he walks by, he comments that he is innocent. Megan has is notified that someone is waiting to see her. When she gets to her office, she discovers that the individual's father that was brought to the department wants to have her represent her son. The police believe that this is an open and shut case, a slam dunk. the only basis for this was that he was found at the scene and he had blood on him. This is similar to the situation Megan found herself in when her mother was killed.

Megan takes the case and after following the evidence, she is convinced that her client is innocent. She convinces one of the detectives to help her gather proof. She discovers that a camera was hidden in the deceased bedroom and enlists a friend of her sister to help out. With data that is found, Megan and her team have discovered the location of the server which stores the data. Unfortunately her sister's friend is murdered. During the trial, Megan's sister and her Uncle Jim bring evidence to the court which frees the client. As a result, Megan receives a threat. To discover who the killer was, what evidence was presented that freed the client and why the threat was mad, you need to read this book.

Reaper of Justice/Megan Corver Book 1 by Freya Atwood

I just discovered Freya Atwood as an author and I am so glad I did. Reaper of Justice is the first book of hers that I have read and it definitely will not be the last. If you enjoy a good, quick read than this book is for you.
While reading I did find a few errors in timing of events but none that effected the story line and none that kept me from continuing to read.
Ms. Atwood has the paragraphs and the chapters set up so the story flows smoothly. Her storyline was a mystery that I wanted to solve along with her protagonist, Megan Corver. Megan is an attorney who lost her mother to a brutal murder and shortly thereafter her father disappeared. This event made her want to be an attorney.
All the characters are “real” life. They are people I can actually see doing the jobs they do. As a reader you learn enough about each person to understand their motives and how they fit into Megan’s life.
Get yourself a copy of Reaper of Justice by Freya Atwood. You will be happy you did.
10.10.2020
Title: Reaper of Justice: A Legal Thriller
Authors: Freya Atwood (Author), Cobalt Fairy
Publisher: F. A. & C. F.
Series: Megan Corver Legal Thriller Series Book 1
Reviewed By: Arlena Dean
Rating: Five
Review:

"Reaper of Justice" by Freya Atwood & Cobalt Fairy

My Speculation:

"Reaper of Justice' was quite a crime thriller that will keep you turning the pages to see what was going on next for Megan Corver, who was a District Attorney trying a case where she was defending a young man for murder. It was good to see how well this attorney sought after the truth while working on Oliver's defense.

From this murder, there will be another one where it seems like this may 'reflected on her family as well,' giving the reader one interesting ending. Be ready for lots of suspense; the danger with some twists and turns will have you shaking your head and saying, wow. The characters were well-delivered and defined, and the reader is caught up in the storyline. If you like crime thrillers, I think you may like 'Reaper of Justice.'

Megan is an experienced criminal attorney who delves into her cases much deeper than she should. A new case literally drops into her lap when she visits the chief of police. Oliver is being charged with the murder of his lover. He claims innocence. His parents hire Megan as his attorney. She pairs up with her sister Catherine, and a detective, Aidan. They uncover some weird evidence, hidden cameras, a suspect all in black, and other circumstantial evidence…but it all links together. Without the smoking gun though, they do not have the culprit. The case keeps getting harder and more frustrating~ See how the killer is nabbed…but first others will pay! I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

Megan Corver is a defense attorney. When the Mayor's ex-wife is found stabbed to death, a young man gets arrested, for the crime. Megan thinks he is not guilty. She teams up with Detective Aiden, her sister; Catherine and friend Ellen to find the real murderer. We have danger, intrigue, suspense, heartbreak, twists and turns that will keep you turning pages to the end. Will they find clues that point to someone else? Did Megan dig too deep this time? Characters are fleshed out, the plot is well constructed and the story is well written. Fans of Freya won't want to miss this one.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.

An intriguing, fast paced, semi-romantic read. Megan, an terrific attorney in her hometown, and Aiden, a new detective fresh from L.A., feel an attraction to each other when they meet at the Westby Police Station. Megan and Jim, the police chief, are chatting when a man enters screaming, "They killed her!". Turns out that Megan will represent the young man, Oliver, accused of killing Rosalin, a therapist. There is a wide assortment of interesting characters all of whom have a motive. Secrets are revealed, twists and turns in the story throw a loop and trying to figure out the murderer (s) is a really great exercise. I had to keep reading because it was exciting and kept me going!

Red Robin
