a cute romance about a guy and his sex slave ⛓️

The fact that one of the tropes of this book is a jealous/possessive hero is laughable to me, i’ve seen more possessive men in a reverse harem book than this “MF” book ?♀️

i recently read a book that has 2 similar themes/scenes as this book with:
a) degradation kink/name-calling
b) carving initials into skin/blood play

in the previous book I read, those scenes were hot as fuck. here? i just felt completely grossed out ? literally nothing about this was sexy, every single character needs therapy and i will be joining them too after finishing this ?

the heroine can kid herself all she wants and believe everything here was consensual but i swear to god what i felt reading this was the complete opposite. this entire book just felt like one giant continuous rape ?

if y’all know me, you know i read a lot of dark romance/taboo books, nothing is off-limits to me (well unless people are fucking animals or being put in diapers?), but this was all kinds of messed up and not even a good way. i’m trying to understand why I hated this so much and I can only put it down to:

? juvenile writing, with short sentences that sounded like this:
“He watched me. He went to this school. He ate a burger. He is ugly." - this is not a real quote from the book but this is how it felt. all those full stops, had me sounding like a robot whilst reading it in my head.

? unlikeable characters - Rylee (h) is a self-confessed whore, which is great and sexually liberating and all but why do you need to say it every 2 seconds we fucking get it. it’s your only personality trait. Colton (H) needs to be put on the sex offenders list stat.

? weird book length - 222 pages and 200 of them are just sex scenes. so what is this? it's too long to be a novella and too short to be a full-length novel. where’s the plot? this could’ve and should've been a 100-page novella and nothing would’ve been missed.

? missed potential - what good is it to start a book with some random ass MFMM scene (which was so stupid and unnecessary...) and say “the MC’s have been secretly fucking for 5 years”, and then just not give us any of that in past chapters when it’s a stepbrother trope. i needed it to actually be taboo, show them sneaking around, fighting their feelings etc...

what a waste of tropes, truly ? this left me feeling so uncomfortable and dirty i legit had to go take a shower after i finished

You can't be JP and still share the heroine with others- just saying. That's a contradiction. But thanks to the author for letting us readers know instead of throwing it at us blindly ?

Straight away your pulled into a scene from the likes of #pornhub It’s beyond hot and definitely sets the stage for what’s to come.

This will test your boundaries so be aware of that before you dive into this, depending on your triggers it doesn’t sugar coat things.

These two pushed and pulled until one of them broke and combusted over a leaked tape which was the catalyst of where it all really kicked started things off in this story. It was hard to connect with these two (this is my opinion) mainly because I felt it focused more on their sexual awakening than their actual connection which is where it lost a few stars for me. I didn't get why they hated each other as much as they did? And that alone made it really hard for me to connect with them. Even when she went through a life changing event I still in that moment never found that connection I was hoping for.

Check your moral compass at the door. Raylee Adams and Colt Knox are toxic, depräved, and will have you questioning your life choices.

These two walk the razor-thin line between love and hate and it makes for explosive chemistry and hot-as-sin scenes.

There’s so much more to their story than you would expect from a novella though. You’ll hate how much you love them. You’ll root for their happy ever after. You’ll feel all the feels. You’ll be rewarded with tons of new spånk bänk material for your moxie.

If you like your romance dark, prefer a villain to a prince, and appreciate a badäss bish, dive in. Shantel nailed it (pun intended) with Sabotage.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Burn: ?????
Darkness: ???
Heat: ?????

? Genre: Dark Romance

✨ Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Bully, Forbidden (Step-Brother)

⛔️ Warning: This book/series may cause blushing, squirming, combusting panties, and/or self-care. It’s definitely NSFW or with a kiddo by your side. In fact, I would highly recommend you read this one after dark to avoid side eye or awkward conversations.

⚠️ Safety Squad: There are triggers galore if you have any. If not, blind is best!!

? Sabotage is a standalone.

? Be Advised: My Goodreads shelves are … explicit in both senses. As such, they could be considered spoiler-y.

Did I read the same book as everyone else? Where are all these glowing reviews coming from? Like I'm genuinely curious. I was so excited for this book and it's been a hot minute since I've read this author, but there was no story. No plot line. No angst. No chemistry. No love. It was all sex, and that would have been fine if I had just felt SOMETHING for these characters, but there was nothing there. Colt was a borderline psycho with daddy issues, who thought he was God's gift to women. And Raylee.. well, I did actually like her view that women shouldn't be called sluts & whores just because we dare to like sex as much as men, but that's where my feelings stopped for her.

And I'm not dogging on their kinks, especially since we all like what we like, but the degradation kink got old fast. Add to the fact that he degraded her every second he got when they were actually clothed (which wasn't much) it just didn't work for me. And the fact that they were both fucking around with others -- I just couldn't do it. There was nothing romantic about this book.

1 Star

word count:
Slut - 68
Whore - 22

The fact that this book literally starts off with a group sex scene…… I thought the H was supposed to be possessive/Jealous, over the top H so I was a little bit surprised knowing that they have been fucking for YEARS and he lets his friends touch her…….

“You are to please them. Only I please you. Understand?” They know how much I hate her, and they also know I’d kill them if they ever touched her behind my back. What can I say? I’m a complicated man.

Yes you are a very complicated man indeed.

He does admit that he hates her being with other men but he doesn’t want her to know.

I’ve never let them have a piece of her before. If I’m being honest with myself, I hate the fact that she fucks other men. But I can’t let her know that about me. And this is about my control over her right now, not the other way around.

Personally for me, when I think of a ”possessive, over the too H”, I think of Christian from the maddest obsession, who literally killed a man just because the woman he was obsessed with said she would sleep with him.

So I didn’t like how the book started off, years of physical/emotional relationship that was just mentioned in the passing. The hate and lust, I wanted to read how it started and that journey to the moment they become obsessed with each other, that no matter what Raylee always came back to Colt for more and vice verse.

Another thing, the reason Colt releases the sex tape is because Raylee starts dating a guy named Nate and he doesn’t like it and now decides to make her his “slut” forever. But then still proceeds to have sex with OW ?

Now I’m just horny, and Amy wasn’t doing it for me. But the moment I saw Raylee standing at my door, I knew exactly who would. I didn’t even finish. Once Amy came, I was done with her. Raylee has ruined me for any other woman. They’re boring.

I did like how Raylee retaliated by burning down Colts car, that was cool ?

Any woman can allow a man to make her go insane. The point is to stand out—be remembered and feared for your toxicity—but look fuckable while you’re doing it.

That was the only cool thing she did, she was so up Colt’s ass that she could never stand up to him and say no.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous of him. But I’ll never admit that to her. He’ll be gone soon enough. Once he sees that video, he won’t stick around. No. He’ll judge her like all the rest. She’s my slut, my fucking bitch to use, and if I have to carve my name into her skin to prove that to any man who wants her, I will.

After her boyfriends gets to know, calls her a whore and breaks up with her, I felt bad and I was really hoping she wouldn’t let Colt get his way anymore.

Why am I the whore? Colt was literally fucking Amy just minutes before he was screwing me in the shower, so why am I the only one who is in the wrong? How do I know that Nate hasn’t been sleeping with other women? Colt turns to face me. “Prin—”
I slap him across the face, my teeth grinding at the sting on my palm from connecting with his cheek. He takes in a deep breath, his nostrils flaring, and I hate that tears start to burn my eyes. Instead of yelling or begging—for I don’t know what—I exit the kitchen and head up to my room, needing to get away from them. I don’t give a damn what Colt had to say. It wouldn’t matter anyway. We did what we did. Can’t change it now.

But of course she doesn’t even TRY to stay angry at him and make him work for it! She just gives in! LIKE WHY!? HAVE SOME SELF RESPECT! IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK FOR!?

“Tell me we have a truce.” She nods, sucking in a deep breath.
“A truce. Just fuck me.”

He literally made a video of you without your CONSENT and posted it online for the WORLD to see and label you as a whore and you CANT even put up a little fight!? COME ON

Colt knows what my body wants, and I refuse to withhold pleasure from myself. If this is the only time we’re not killing one another, then so be it.

Then continue to be disrespected and humiliated outside the bedroom your whole life.

The book didn’t really have any storyline, just pages and pages of endless sex. I’m someone who can’t read more than one or two smut scenes so I skipped A LOT and finished this book in record time. lmao.

He wants to humiliate me in front of all these people. I like the fact that I am not responsible. It turns me on to know that I’m just an object, and I have no obligation to try to keep up appearances. I’m no longer Raylee Lexington Adams. I’m just his—Colt’s slut. I enjoy the place he drags me to when I cry and beg him for any kind of pleasure.

I always forget my kink is when the hero calls the heroine princess. ? Also did not know this was a story set in the Lords universe… love it!! I need more stories in this world. I LOVE THIS! ??? Sorry not sorry for repeating myself. ? A coincidence that I read this after Lily White’s The Five. Both *amazing* books featuring the slut heroine. While The Five had more of an exploration in femme fatale mystique, this was celebrating your inner slut.

Shantel writes smut on a level with Trent Evans. I’ve tried to finish other works by her but nothing compares to her Lords universe.

If you’re not into humiliation kink or smut, this won’t work for you.

This makes me very excited for The Sinner which is recently released and set among Lords.

Some further notes:

1. I enjoyed the simplicity of this story where it all starts from the hero publishing a clip of him and the heroine together. After the hero achieves what he wants by releasing the clip, I eye-rolled at the hero telling his friend to delete the original clip, as if people might not screen-record or in some way save the clip on their phone.

2. I would have loved a longer story to this couple because I'm actually very curious about how the Lords society works. The hero and his friends are recruited to be lackeys. They are lords, in a sense, but they don't interact with the likes of initiates like Ryat etc. However, I also think the story that we got was just perfect. I think the commentary on sluts is bang-on, where I also really appreciate the objective portrayal of CNC and humiliation kinks, and the juxtaposition between the hero giving the heroine what she needs versus the big bad guy.

3. We need more books like Shantel Tessier's Sabotage where it is an exploration into women's sexuality in the terrain of slut/femme fatale/nympo/hot mess. I like that the heroine never feels ashamed about herself, aware of society's hypocrisies. The only thing that is particularly messy is her hate/love relationship with her stepbrother, but I loved reading about their toxic relationship.

~ 1/5 ☆ ?

I had this book on my tbr since so long but i truly wish I would've kept it there for much longer. the book have a lot of toxicity , so less of a storyline and A MAJOR degradation kink which i found a little unbearable. The humiliation was just way too much and honestly there was nothing consensual here ; it just felt like some huge ass manipulative rape to me ; fmc could legit fool herself for all she want. I have read a lot of dark romance and nothing EVER grossed me out like this one did.

It had stepbrother/stepsister trope but there were no scenes of them sneaking around , trying to hide from parents etc etc again lack of storyline just made it boring and plain. Instead there were just endless , boring sex scenes and OH did i mentioned this book starts with MFMM scene which I found absolutely irrelevant and pointless ??♀️

~ COLTON KNOX

Honestly author tried so hard to portray him as a possesive and demanding ALPHA but failed miserably and turned him into a manipulative little piece of shit. In the beginning i fr tried super hard to consider him hot and dominating but by the end of the book, i realised that he's nothing but a condescending asshole.

~ RAYLEE ADAMS

I even tried hard to like her, believe me when i say that because i REALLY did. the author tried to portray her as someone who's sexually liberal and is open minded and to which i think she did a great job but honestly there was no need for her to go around and say "im his whore or his little slut" legit after every two goddamn page. OKAY we get it ma'am!! Now fucking STOP. TBH it just got annoying with every single page.

There story was so fucked up and extremely toxic. I have no problem with all this stepbrother/stepsister taboo but to me it felt like they had some kind of attachment issues which was left unhealed and maybe much more deeper issues from their teen years.

Tbh i don't have any problem with any trope mentioned in the book but the only problem here was how author portrayed each one of them. What a WASTE of tropes. I genuinely disliked both the characters so much.

This book would've been much much better if it had more storyline and yes some character development as well. The love-hate relationship they had was so fucked up that it had me questioning my sanity ??♀️ Every character in this book needs therapy and after reading them i need it as well?❤️?

Overall, if you want to read a book which lacks storyline and have endless, monotonous and repetitive sex scenes; please be my guest!!!! ?
