Characters develop and change more deeply, there's even more humor and good times, and more vulgarity and social commentary, even briefly upon transsexuality and homosexuality. The sheer diversity is exquisite.

A friend of mine asked me where this series is going, and that's a valid question. Unity, I think is the simplest answer. Chaos rules this series. Tragedies abound. But I think it's really about family, coming together, what it means, and the love and hate, glory and horror that families go through. Wrapped up in an intergalactic war, populated with a large and crazy cast.

And seriously, as a father, that last chapter got to me.

Hazel is such a cute kid, and I love Squire finally coming into the story. Also Petrichor is amazing too. Really all of the characters are well done in this series, those are just some that I like even more.

Original review: Brilliant, amazing, stunning, and whatever else that Lady Gaga meme says.

Saga is one of the best graphic novels/comics being published currently, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We pick up again with our heroes as they try their hand at living a normal life on the planet Gardenia, with Marco taking up stay-at-home-dad duties while Alana wins the bread as an actor in shitty tv shows on the Open Circuit. Oh and Hazel is a toddler!

The first part here is really great as we tightly focus on the relationship between Alana and Marco and it becomes a wonderful look at how doubts, trust and insecurity can strain a marriage even outside of the fact that the two are star-crossed lovers from enemy alien races. But just when the relationship is at it's lowest, the past catches up and the story is off again on an intergalactic adventure that's even more action-packed than before, involving new alliances, space heists, and a dangerous quest for dragon jizz.

It's once again addictive, imaginative, and exciting, with characters you care about, proving once again why it's considered one of the top comic series being published right now.

It's also available in separate volumes:
<a href="https://goodreads.com/book/show/23093367.Saga__Vol__4__Saga___4_" title="Saga, Vol. 4 (Saga, #4) by Brian K. I had been reading this for a while, but now just got around to finishing it. It goes without saying it's great.

Very nice edition with some extras at the end.

Volume 4, Chapters 19-24, 5 stars:

Excellent. This volume was really good. Lots of action, the plot had some great developments, I really liked it. A little darker, family life, drugs, the ending of the last chapter was a nice cliffhanger.

Volume 5, Chapters 25-30, 4 stars:

Lots of drugs, some sex, reflection on the bad things people do during war, redemption... Some people got reunited. Some didn’t. Some were healed, some weren‘t.
Let’s not forget the dragon „medicine“. Yuk. Right there is some imagery that I won’t get rid of soon. I need some mental bleach.
And holy cow, I had a Game of Thrones moment. Or two. Or three. They are certainly not pulling their punches.

Volume 6, Chapters 31-36, 4 stars:

Some of it spoilerish! You might want to read after the respective chapters...

Chapter 31: Pretty horrific, those kids with their sketches chronicling their suffering.
And what was that with the intersex dudette, that was totally arbitrary. Was that to set the scene for Hazel taking off her shirt later in the chapter?

Chapter 32: I love the first full-page sketch. The colours are great, I love their facial expressions and the reflection in his glasses.

<input type="checkbox" class="spoiler__control" aria-label="The following text has been marked spoiler. Did he channel Captain America?
And I love that she can use her wings properly now.

Burning, walking and talking skeletons. Ok.

Chapter 33: Our intrepid reporters are back. Mostly a filler chapter. Why is The Will overweight all of a sudden? How did that happen?

Chapter 34: Another lovely frontispiece, this time with Güs and Friendo.

<input type="checkbox" class="spoiler__control" aria-label="The following text has been marked spoiler. Vaughan and Staples could do so many mini-offshoots and prequel stories and I would Never. Get. Tired.

✧ • ° . ◦ *⠀┊ four stars.

Saga: Book One : ★★★★½

⠀i'm not going to do a serious review like i did for the first one since... it's a graphic novel and not that much really changes. as noted above, i gave the first book four and a half stars, which rounded up to five stars. i really enjoyed book two, however, i didn't like the plot as much as i did for the first one. i couldn't bring myself to put this book on the same level as book one (hence the drop of half a star). i won't state why since it is kind of a spoiler. i will say that arguably the most important thing that happened made a difference for almost the entire book but it was "fixed" in the end. speaking of the end, boy did my mouth drop. i can't say i saw it coming since this is so fast-paced, but i wasn't really surprised. this will change probably everything... which might be why everyone says that Saga: Book Three is so heartbreaking. i started this in the last review and i will say it again: i really, really enjoy this but i still don't get the hype. it's very good and very intriguing but i feel like people think that this is the avengers: endgame of graphic novels and i just don't see that.

↠ ebook
↠ 04.03.20 — 04.03.20
↠ annotated? no
↠ readathon? n/a
