Stalking: (PAVAD: FBI Romantic Suspense, #9) by Calle J. Brookes

I found this book on Amazon today free and thought I'd give it a try.

I really enjoyed Calle J. Brookes writing, as soon as I started reading this book I knew I wanted to check out the 8 books that came before.

This series is about a group of people connected to the PAVAD—the Prevention & Analysis of Violent Acts Division—is a special directorate of the FBI.

These books full under the genre romantic suspense and so far I am enjoying them.

The story follows Emma who was been stalked. Her father was a FBI agent and her sister was in the law enforcement as well. Emma had gone through lot of hardships but it never broke her. But this stalking was getting to her. J.T, the male protagonist being an agent himself as well as being a good friend to her family tried to help Emma in every way possible.

They both had feelings for each other but were in denial. Finally when J.T insisted her to stay with him until they find out who the stalker is, that's when they revealed their feelings.

On the other hand, the stalker was keeping a close watch on her. Everyday his intentions were becoming more and more deadly and vicious.

Throughout the book there was no indication as to who the stalker is. Although there were a few hints dropped but it can be quickly brushed off as reader's paranoia since this was designed to make think every character was hiding something.

I liked the chemistry between Emma and J.T. and I also liked that the usual boring back-and-forth was limited because both main characters were willing to go for what they wanted. However, as Emma’s background and life experience is entirely different to J.T’s there would’ve been a lot of space to elaborate on issues that might’ve be based on these differences and carve out their personalities a bit better. The biggest drawback of the book was unfortunately that there wasn’t a real development regarding the villain. He was just caught and this was it! I expected much more in this respect and this thread was completely unsatisfactorily.

Nevertheless a nice read, although at times I thought maybe this was a bit too short and one dimensional because there was definitely more potential.

Emma's Story

This is a short but sweet Christmas Novella featuring Emma and Hot Geek J.T. When Emma finds herself bring stalked it acts as the catalyst to bring her together with Josh's friend and fellow agent J.T. As everyone pulls together to protect her, Emma finally tells the man she adores how she feels and to her joy finds that he shares her feelings. Now they just need to stop the stalker to ensure that Emma and J.T. have a Christmas to remember for all the right reasons.
This was a freebie (yay) but there were a few typos throughout and at one point the author completely changed the spelling of one of the character's names.
That being said, this story was short and sweet and I loved both characters but I felt like she wrapped it up way too quickly and a few more chapters and no typos would have made it a 5 star read for me.

Wow

It's bad when you have a stalker, but it is worse when you have to finish your semester exams. Emma finds a note and a rose in her car after class so she calls her friend J.T. She doesn't want to call her dad the FBI agent J.T. Works for them too. But she has a mad crush on him. Will she finally tell him and catch the bad guy.

I read book #1 in the series about 5 years ago, it was free, my first by this author and it was acceptable. A short while ago I downloaded a few more freebies including this. It is very short, even for a novella. He is almost 30, she is 21 and a bit too twee for me but it passed the time in the hairdressers today. Probably my last by this author.

The author pulls the reader into the non-existent love life of the two main characters. The both want love but appreciate their friendship too much to rock the boat. Then Emma gets threatened and the reader is thrust into their inner most thoughts. Predictably they make through this and come out the other side with a great start to their new relationship.

Waste of money and time

There isn’t much to it. There’s the outline of a story here, that’s about it. We even totally miss the payoff at the end. Disappointing. I wish she would go back and flesh this out to make it a real story.
