Wow!

It's so disturbing and dark, and could just as easily be a true story about teens and trafficking.
I can't wait to read part two, because some sort of revenge needs to happen! But, I have a feeling that things are going to get worse before they get better.

Very easy read to get absorbed into. I read it in the span of 24 hours and was never bored.

That being said, I did feel that it repeated itself numerous times and even though it was very short, it was almost too long for a novella that has 2 other parts to flesh out the full story. That could have been accomplished by editing down the numerous times she thinks or says the same thing over and over again.

Overall worth a read though. This author goes into details but not too difficult of a read for anyone that has trigger warning issues.

3.5 ⭐️s out of 5!

The Girls They Stole

This is a story of young woman's struggle to remove herself from the despair of her life. She makes the choice to enter herself into a prostitution ring to sell her only thing of value, her virginity. Who knew what a person would pay for that? Perverts, evil people. What a ride this book will give you! Fast paced, great character development and an unusual story. Great writing, a thoroughly entertaining read.

As always, the street kids' language is rough and often obscene, but the pain they experienced when they accept an offer to auction off their virginity makes their crude language understandable. Four girls from very different backgrounds decide to take the offer and are sold to extremely rich buyers. They go through an embarrassing preparation, are auctioned off, and immediately taken by the men who purchased them to undisclosed locations. The men are allowed to by kind or cruel to the girls, taking their bodies, most raping and abusing them both sexually and physically. The girls are returned to a mansion where they are put into separate bedrooms to await their fate. They are supposed to be released after five days, but the five days comes and goes without the payment. One of the girls, a very intelligent young lady, escapes from her room and discovers one of the girls has been beaten so badly that she died. The big question is: will the operators of the auction actually pay them, or will they end up in a grave? You'll have to read the book to find out.

I never quite know how to rate a book like this. Because the subject is disturbing. So, it’s hard to say oooh, I liked this book. But, it completely sucked me in. Made me a little ill and sad, but I want to keep reading the trilogy to find out what happens next. Though this is the type of story that I doubt will have a happy ending.

I haven't read anyone else's review, so I apologize if mine is a repeat.

Also, **SPOILERS**

First, I could not finish the book. I might have been able to, if the premise had been that the girls were stolen. But, the premise is that they sold themselves. The author gives a valiant effort to justify their actions, and paint them in the most sympathetic light. I do feel sorry for anyone who would feel desperate enough to do what they do. But, I can't reconcile the never-ending "I'm a victim" monologue the main character has through the 124 pages I read. I feel like this novel will set true victims of sexual assault back 100 years, if it's read by a large audience. If you sell yourself into prostitution, and sign a contract agreeing to being used sexually, you are not a victim of rape.
I found the idea of this so offensive.

I received the invitation to read this tripe from Kindle Unlimited (so, thankfully, I didn't buy this book). The description I read lead me to believe it was a thriller, not torture porn, with a 3rd wave feminist rant thrown in for good measure.

Finally, the writing is just bad. Not bad in the sense the author has no technical skill, but the characters are 2-dimensional, the dialogue (and never-ending monologues) are sophomoric, and there is nothing in it that elicits any emotion, other than nausea.

I am giving everyone my most strenuous warning that if you are a victim of sexual assault, you should probably skip this one. Well, if you are a human, you should probably skip this one.

Sometimes you're just in the mood for something a little more...salacious is maybe the right word for that. Unfortunately this book could never really decide on what side of the issue it wanted to come down on. You either embrace the topic you're writing about and lean into it OR you preach at your audience about the evils of the world. Neither side of your potential audience is going to thank you for writing titilating rape and still essentially making the girls out ot be amoral sluts for selling themselves in the first place.

The same back-and-forth is present in everything else. The characters of the girls see-saw wildly between naive, desperate girls way in over their heads one minute and world-weary survivors ready to take on the world the next. It's all very shallow and by the numbers. Pop psychology stands in for real insight and I honestly never really cared about what happened to them which...is not good.
The Girls They Stole
The Auction Trilogy, Book 1
By: J.H. Leigh
Narrated by: Sarah Puckett

Desperation will lead to quick decisions. Nicole, Tana, Dylan and Jilly all need to get out of their current situations. When approached by Madam Moirai, they thought they found the answer! Enough money to change their life for twenty four hours, their silence and a night they will never forget. But they may have signed a contract for much more than that! JH Leigh starts off this suspense filled trilogy with every fear I could imagine. These four women, each with a different story and need found themselves caught up in a place they may not be able to get out of. Now on the run, wondering where to go and what to do, they search for the answers needed to get them out. It's scarily realistic and amazing! This kind of suspense, you know the kind that makes your stomach turn and your heart race is the best kind. I cannot wait to see where this story goes in the next installment! So many unanswered questions! I need to know!

Sarah Puckett has begun this journey with us giving a bone chilling performance. She dials into each girl, giving them a personality to fit their situations. Attitude, fear, hope and despair, it's all there for taking. I am ready for her to continue so I can find out what happens next! Amazing narration!
