A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

The Lucky Cat is the first in the Treasure Trove series and, while it’s a kind of a ridiculous plot, Landry and Gage are a pretty fun couple. And if their romance isn’t exactly profound, then at least this couple seems to well suited to another. Landry is every inch a brat and between his sass and a serious coffee addiction, he’s cute but not dependent on anyone else. He plays around at the clubs, but he’s not the needy type. Gage is all alpha and he can no more control his desire to dominate to Landry than he can to protect the man. They seem to be a natural fit for one another and, while their romance moves way too fast, they do work well together. I would have preferred to see a slower evolution of their relationship, especially with regards to the kinkier aspects, but they still work as a couple and they make the book highly enjoyable

Read Sue’s review in its entirety here.
Well, if this is how this series is going to start, I'm definitely ready for the next books in it. Yes, it's a romance and it is BDSM, if that's a problem for anyone, but it's also a mystery. And the twists and turns in it were awesome. No one saw what ended up coming.
Landry loves working for Treasure Troves. Mr. Lao, the owner, is fixing to leave him with something he's never done before. Control of the shop. But with that control comes something he's not prepared for. A cop that's a Dom and pushes all his buttons, and the Yakuza doing everything to kidnap or kill him for something he doesn't think he has. What Landry doesn't realize is Gage may have come in to work on a case, but he's not kidding when he wants Landry for his own. But first they have to get out of this mess alive and figure out who's behind it all. Because Gage has discovered this cheeky brat is everything he's wanted in a sub and he wants a chance to see where it's all going to go.
I'm telling you, the first few pages of this book had me cracking up so bad. Landry is the perfect bratty sub and Gage knows it right off the bat. And has NO problem whatsoever in calling Landry on his crap. And it's the funniest thing ever. But Gage realizes the more he gets to know Landry, he honestly wouldn't have it any other way. Because Landry keeps him on his toes and makes him so happy. He wouldn't want someone meek and quiet. He needs a sub that is feisty and fun and makes his life happy. Especially with his job. His job wears him down so bad. Especially this new case. And finding out that his new man and this case are coinciding are doing bad things to his stomach. He's terrified for Landry, knowing he can't be in two places at once but he knows Landry needs protecting. It's interesting to see the dynamic between them.
But there's more than just these two to keep the fun going. Gage's partner on the force, is a force to be reckoned with all on her own and I was laughing my butt off all through this book at these guys.
This book has so many different things to it. Mystery, intrigue, attempted murder and kidnapping. Romance, BDSM, and so much more. It's a great start to this series and one I want to read over and over again.

http://lovebytesreviews.com/

Take one bratty, snarky shop assistant and add one just as snarky copy who just happens to also be a Dom, then toss in an international mystery that just so happens to bring them together…there’s your setup for The Lucky Cat. Landry is one very lucky guy to have Gage brought to his doorstep.

Now when I say snarky, I mean cover-to-cover and not just from the main characters Landry and Gage. Sarcasm, snark, and smart-ass comebacks can be found coming from the supporting characters as well. At times it teetered on the edge of going overboard, but I’m letting that go just because of the number of times the author made me giggle-snort. And admittedly it did makes Landry’s brat aspect funny, and I was always waiting to see just how far he would push Gage.

if the witty banter doesn’t pull you in, the intrigue of the case in which Landry finds himself embroiled will certainly do the trick. Plus there’s the uncertainty surrounding James Ellery’s character to keep you on your toes as well. If that’s not enough, the intimate scenes between Landry and Gage should keep you fanning yourself for a while.

The storyline is solid and everything progresses at an even rate. Landry and Gage are attracted to each other from the start, and while this is not really insta-love, it could be viewed as lust at first sight that eventually morphs into a more solid, lasting relationship.

The Lucky Cat was a very solid 4-star read for me, pushing towards 4.5. I really enjoyed reading this, and would definitely recommend it. If you like bratty subs and Doms that keep them in line, this story will be right up your alley. Adult language and sexual content make this story one for readers 18+.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Antique shop assistant Landry meets police detective Gage when he comes to Landry’s work looking for stolen jewelry. Sparks fly between them right from the get go and the banter between them and the interactions were enchanting. Every time Gage called Landry a brat I felt like it was said with a smile and adoration. I totally fell in love with this couple.

Sexy M/M BDSM romance with a hot detective, stolen jewels, a mysterious British investigator, Yakuza and the threat of danger not too far away make for a fun, exciting and sexy story. It is fast paced and as more people come to Landry looking for missing jewels he knows nothing about the danger level goes up. But even with danger, violence and gunshots this story always had a lightness about it.

In some stories you read with crime solving or mystery the romance is a secondary story but not here. The relationship between these men is pivotal and the romance and sexy times were woven throughout the story as Gage and Landry fall in love while trying to keep Landry safe and out of trouble.

I had an absolute ball reading The Lucky Cat. It is a fantastic start to a new series and while I’m looking forward to reading the next book, this one was so much fun I kind of want to go back and read it all over again.

5 Stars!

First of all, how pretty are the moving covers Pride Publishing is using now? I've seen a couple and the one for The Lucky Cat is especially beautiful with the twinkling diamond. It's definitely eye-catching.

Second, this book has some BDSM, but it's unlike any other I've read. I will admit I'm not much for hardcore BDSM, so this one was right up my alley. There's spanking and edging, but it's well-balanced with the growing relationship between Gage and Landry. They click instantly and I just loved the dynamics of their relationship. It's fast, but relationships with power exchange are usually more intense, especially since there's a lot of trust involved.

Landry is sarcastic and irreverent and fun and Gage isn't the stuffy kind of detective or Dom, so they complement each other perfectly. Yes, Gage put some limits, but they weren't set in stone. They were scorching hot together, too, which doesn't hurt, but they also had fun both in and out of the bedroom, even during scenes.

I'm really intrigued by James, so I hope this isn't the last we've seen of him.

The case was interesting and the mystery portion was well-written, fast-paced, and action-packed. Landry and Gage were amazing and even James, who is a bit of a charismatic villain, was great. This is definitely a book I will hopefully be reading again in the future. Highly recommendable!

*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***

Divertente, ironico, stuzzicante.
Hugs&kisses

Having read a lot of BDSM when I first started to read 'romance/erotica' I tend to stay away from it now unless it is BDSM lite.
I was pleased to see that this book was with 2 engaging main characters. To go along with the beginning of their relationship there was a decent mystery to solve as well.
I hope there will be further books in this series.

Voto: 3.5

The Lucky Cat by LM Somerton

Reviewed by Shee Reader for Boy Meets Boy Reviews

Find us on the web at www.boymeetsboyreviews.com

Rating 4 Hearts

Blurb:

Book one in the Treasure Trove Antiques series
Antiques and ammunition do not mix well.
The antique trade is not known for its life or death excitement and Landry Carran is happy that he has to contend only with furniture polish, woodworm and his irascible boss. He gets all the thrills he needs at his favorite BDSM club, Scorch.
Detective Gage Roskam is hunting stolen jewels taken from a Tokyo exhibition then shipped to Seattle. Mired in a deadly race involving the Yakuza, an enigmatic Englishman and too many indecipherable clues, he doesn’t have time to indulge in Dominant fantasies.
When their worlds collide, neither Landry nor Gage expects things to get quite as complicated—or dangerous—as they do. When Landry steps into the path of some powerful, ruthless people, it’s up to Gage to protect him. Along the way they might just discover what they both need.

Landry is a charming character, and Gage, the cocky police detective leaning on his counter attracts all Landry’s attention.

Gage is investigating stolen goods and Landry very quickly gets inadvertently involved in said crimes. The bad guys come calling and all kinds of mayhem ensues. Landry finds himself navigating working in the antique store alone, as his boss is on a buying trip, and his brand new relationship with Gage as they try to stay alive and Gage tries to crack the case!

This is an all action book entwined with a book about an intriguing antique store and a book about a slightly kinky pair finding their perfect match in each other. All at the same time!

There are times when the book feels like it might be trying to do too much, but for the most part, it is an exciting and fun romp with delightfully over the top characters driving an interesting tale. In the end, all is well and the HEA we all need from our romances is secured. There are a number of charming supporting characters that I would love to see elaborated on in the later books in this series. In all, it was an enjoyable read!

I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The Lucky Cat is a delightful story, witty and warm with a twist in its tale. It has an atmosphere that evokes a 1960’s crime caper; pairing a kooky hero(ine) with a gruff alpha male along the lines of Charade. Landry and Gage may well have been Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant reimagined; their banter was one of my favourite things. The antiques shop itself was the other, depicted so wonderfully well I could almost smell the beeswax.

Landry’s inner-dialogue is a treat to read and I adored his observations and tongue-in-cheek takes on the other characters along the way. The antiques shop setting lends this story a charm as unique as Landry’s own. I adored the store and the foibles of its owner—the irascible Mr Lao—described with such incorrigible aplomb by Landry that his boss felt very present, despite the fact he wasn’t.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery, the unfolding of the plot is p’raps more important than the solving of it. As the key to unlocking this story’s secrets is telegraphed from the start, I doubt that a reader will remain in the dark until its denouement. That said, discerning its location didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the book one bit. It was spending time with the characters that made this story hum along so well, rather than the cogs clicking into place aspect of it.

I’ve promised myself that my reviews will be honest, so I must confess two things:

1) My only quibble is something very specific to me. My catnip is intensity, so I suspect you could read this novel and wonder what I’m waffling on about. Nevertheless, it is the maple syrup that tickles my taste buds, so I feel its absence keenly. If only the intensity had been ratcheted up a tad—the passion made more passionate, the peril more perilous, etc—I would have given The Lucky Cat a five star review. My own proclivities aside, if you prefer a great caper to indulging your egregious emotions in a feel-fest, I highly recommend this story.

2) I am not the best judge of intensity levels. My base camp is the summit of Everest. If you’d rather embark upon an enjoyable adventure with great characters, this Lucky Cat will make an excellent addition to your collection.
