George had quite the upbringing, growing up with his Momma (and all the other ladies) who worked as a prostitute in a whore house. He got way more of an education than boys his age should ever be exposed to. Then George's grandfather takes him away to become a part of his Motorcycle Club and everything in this story got even better.

When George (AKA Twisted) and Penny discover each other, these two had chemistry that was off the charts. Twisted melted down into such an amazing and caring lover. Twisted was so rough around the edges, I never saw that coming. The sex between these two was phenomenal.

This story sucked me in from the very first page, and had so much action in it that it kept me entirely glued until the ending. This author is an amazing storyteller. She definitely has a gift of creating edgy stories and she isn't afraid to cross lines (even into territories that might make the reader uncomfortable) in her storytelling.

"Begin as you intend to end."

I was very excited to get my hands on another MariaLisa deMora MC Romance. I fell hard for her Rebel Wayfarers MC series. She has a writing style that has ruined me for other authors. I love the way she takes me deep into the characters. She takes me all the way back and then brings me forward, making me feel like I know them intimately. She puts me inside their heads, and I feel their pain. She makes me care, and then she throws them into danger and I'm sure she sits back laughing as I bite my nails to nubs worrying about them. But I wouldn't change it for anything, I'll continue to be 'all-in' as long as I'm, "Upright and suckin' air."

George Bell (aka Twisted) starts out as a kid raised in a whorehouse, and later ends up at the Incoherent MC. He learned his lessons the hard way, by tough experiences as he was forced to become a man early in life. He learned that he had to depend on himself for survival, while continuing to protect those he cared about. Later, he found another family, brothers that had his back. He might have become hard, and twisted, but he still cared for his family and fought for his club, wanting it to prosper and grow. He had no time for women, other than the services they could provide. He had much more important things to concentrate on... until her.

Penny grew up around a MC clubhouse. She was 'family' because her uncle was a respected member. She was familiar with the lifestyle, even though she didn't live it. When she and Twisted crossed paths, she was drawn to his long hair and colorful tats. They didn't scare her. Nope, it was actually the opposite that happened... she wanted him. That was a first for her. She's running from a painful past and he doesn't fit into her world. But she wants him...even if only for one night.

Twisted ran into Penny by accident. He wasn't looking for her. But when he found her... he wanted her. He's caught up in club business and is not looking for a relationship. But he wants her...even if only for one night. She was unlike any woman he'd met before. She was soft, sweet, and tough at the same time. But she didn't know the
real him. He was sure that if she did, she wouldn't want him. But she did...

Penny's not stupid, she knew what those tats meant. Even though he wasn't wearing his cut, she knew. He wasn't fooling her. But she didn't say anything. She just enjoyed him. Wanting more, but not asking for it. She let him walk away, but she didn't forget him.

Before and after that night, there is madness and mayhem. The Incoherent MC have more than their share of trouble and even though they don't go looking for it, it finds them. There are secrets hiding behind the secrets and revelations that will drop your jaw and raise your eyebrows. There is humor and passion and heartache along the way. It's addictive and exciting as you travel the route of twisted pain. It's an experience you do not want to miss.
1.5 DNF Star
I DNF at 29%. The book started strongly but I really struggled with the style of writing / dialogue used. I think this is all on me , lots of really positive reviews and this author has a strong following. I thought the story of George (Twisted) Bell's background was well constructed and it clearly is pivotal to the rest of the book. I did not like reading about the way adults exploited him and there is clear sexual abuse of a minor (an adult male pays George's Mum / the boss of the bordello to make George watch him have sex with one of the prostitutes and he coaches George on sex. George is a teenager but underage ). It's also got quite a lot of quiet graphic violence on page (gunfights etc).
Sadly, I just didn't enjoy this book.

Review for This is the Route of Twisted Pain by MariaLisa deMora

This book.

I’ve sung the praises for MariaLisa deMora and the outstanding realism that she puts into her stories. She broke out into the MC romance world and nailed every single word she put to page with her Rebel Wayfarers MC series. I went into This is the Route of Twisted Pain expecting it to be good, but it went beyond that. The characters are dynamic — you love them and hate them, you root for them and hope they burn — they are truly heroes and villains, sometimes a little bit of both.

George Bell and Penny Dane. Twisted and Penny. Penny and her Bell. Bell and his Shiny Penny. Talk about getting under a person’s skin. We first met these characters in an awesome little novella titled Twisted Penny. (Haven’t read it? Have no fear, it’s included inside this novel. Already read it? Have no fear, you’re just going to get more of the phenomenal Twisted and Penny.) I was hooked from the first pages of Twisted Penny and desperate to know their whole story by the last page. I’m beyond thrilled that deMora decided to listen to the characters when they just demanded she tell their story.

I’m forever looking for heroines that can save themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I need a strong hero that can do some rescuing, but I want her to fight for herself. In this case, Penny not only fights for herself, but she fights for her man, too. She is the kind of chick you want in your corner. deMora knocked me on my butt with her character and then kept me down with Twisted. He’s a force to be reckoned with — part villain, part hero, all Twisted.

I went through such a broad range of emotions while reading this book. Snorting laughter to ugly tears. Hot and steamy to raging mad. No matter what was happening in the story at any given moment it was felt — totally and completely. Getting a book that gives you that all-encompassing, can’t put it down, want to live in that world feeling is the holy grail for a reader and this book has that.

“Thought about you all the fuckin’ time, beautiful. I can’t seem to lose this need for you. Under my skin, in my blood, can’t leave you behind no matter where I go. Ain’t no replacin’ you, won’t even start to try.”

You have to read this book. It’s a little dark and twisty and a whole lot of sexy. Five Plus Stars and Five Wet Panties.

Found out about this book after asking for a gritty MC Romance read in the biker rocker fb group. The Author recommended it herself. I'm so glad she did! This was definitely a gritty darker read but also a slow burn romance. The build up was tried and true. We got the full back story. But once Penny appears in the picture, all bets were off and twisted discovered something other than pain. Hope po'boy gets his book, he's hysterical! Laughed out loud a few times reading his shenanigans.

Solid read.

Penny is the complete opposite, but somehow these two work together, in a world where these two should never be together. I promise you, when these two finally come together, it’s so dirty, dirty hot!! I’m still over here panting over it!! I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Having read the first five books of deMora’s Rebel Wayfarers MC series (an oversight I will be rectifying as soon as I can), I jumped at the chance to review This Is the Route of Twisted Pain. And while I didn’t get a third of my “to-do” list done today, I’m not the least bit upset because the author not only sucked me into Bell and Penny’s world, she made the visit well worth it.

Utilizing the writing style I became accustomed to in the Rebel Wayfarers MC series, the author begins the book with a look at Georgie at age seven and then proceeds to highlight the major events of his life as he transitions from Georgie to George to Bell to Twisted, until he finally takes his place as the president of the Incoherent Motorcycle Club. Along the way, we also get to see important events in Ralph’s life (Po’Boy) and Penny’s life (Princess) – the events that paved the way for them to be and become the most important people in Twisted’s life. People he was willing to die for and who were willing to do the same for him. Which is good because in between the tender moments shared by Bell and Penny, there are some gritty and hardcore scenes as Twisted, Po’Boy, and the rest of Incoherent take care of business. Business that, on more than one occasion, had me worried that one of the characters I had connected with, wasn’t going to make it out alive – and sadly, this did occur. By the end of the book, it’s clear that Twisted and Penny were meant for each other, but what’s not clear is how much danger still hangs over their heads because of still looming threats. And I have to add that I was quite tickled by the final scene – Po’Boy’s eavesdropping was very entertaining.

I enjoyed the ever-loving-heck out of This Is the Route of Twisted Pain. The author’s books that I’ve read are what I call journey books, because she takes the reader on a journey through her characters’ lives. As I spend time with them, getting to know them, it allows me to better connect with the character, and I find myself fully invested in their story. This makes for a far richer reading experience, which I enjoy immensely – hence my incomplete “to-do” list. There is something I noticed that I feel compelled to comment on, mainly because I’ve read and discussed too many books as of late in which the author failed to give their characters their own voices. When Bell is with Penny and thinking about her body, he uses an interesting combination of terms that I felt reflected him being raised in the brothel and later his reaching adulthood with the brothers of Incoherent, giving him what I felt was both a feminine and masculine vocabulary. Sadly, I cannot use the actual terms to better explain what I mean and have my review actually appear, but I liked how his language reflected both sides of his upbringing and made his voice unique from the other characters. Then again, deMora’s characters always feel different from one another and appropriate to the pasts she’s created for them, I just found Bell’s character to be an even more interesting amalgamation of his background than I would have expected from the president of a motorcycle club. This Is the Route of Twisted Pain was an excellent book to jump start the Neither This, Nor That series with and I cannot wait for the release of its sequel.

WOW! This is the Route of Twisted Pain has introduced new characters that I absolutely love. Incoherent MC has now been added to my FAVORITES bikers list. I didn't think I could love any bikers as much as I do my Rebels, but these guys are up there.

George Bell aka Twisted was such an great character. His life wasn't easy, but every hardship was a learning curve. He made the most of his youth until he was brought into the life of the Incoherent MC. That's when he learned about family and brotherhood. He was made for that life and was such an honorable guy. He did what needed to be done for his club, no matter what. He was intelligent, even at a young age. Knew how to think things through. I totally admired this guy.

Penny Dane was raised in the club life. She knew the rules and respected them. Raised under then "Princess" title, she was everyone's little girl and treasured by her uncle's club. But being Princess doesn't mean she's too delicate to handle what's needed. She proves that she's willing to do whatever it takes, no matter the sacrifice. She's a flower with thorns, for sure.

When fate stepped in and brought these two together, it was amazing. Their first scene was hot, sexy, sensual, intimidate...did I say hot?? Warning: don't read this at work, like I did. I got all hot and bothered and couldn't do anything about it. I just couldn't stop reading.

I don't know how MariaLisa deMora does it, but she manages to tell an entire life story before getting to a quarter of the book. It's an absolute gift. By then, you know and love the character before the good stuff even hits the pages. I'm invested early on and feel like I've lived their lives right along side them without feeling like the story has been dragged out. She knows have to deliver the important stuff and get you to the meat of the story.

I loved this book and the characters so much. I can't wait for more of the Incoherent MC. I'm hoping Po'Boy is next.
