when you expect too much you're often disappointed, as i was for most of the book. the second book of the vampirates series was .... nice.
if i wanted to make it into three parts they'd be these: the academy, Grace's moral dilemmas , cool piratey or vampiratey stuff.
first of all the academy....oh so boring. nothing cool or even interesting about that, and i really hope the writer has some great ideas about Grace's spiritual experiences (the cover was cool though).
the second part, Grace's moral dilemmas, i mean how old is she? how can she feel responsible for and worried about her brother and Lorcan at the same time? it was pretty obvious from the very beginning that either one of the twins should go on with their own journey, why do they have aaaall these grown up emotions and at the same time want to stick with each other like a couple of kids?? a little drama maybe , but this much??
the third part, obviously my favorite part was very good, i really liked the evil Sidorio ^ ^
though there's also one tiny little problem with this part, the awakening of Jez, or as they put it "the crossing" was sooo lame, i mean, they're vampires for Pete's sake, no blood shed nothing? there should at least have been something bloodier , scarier, cooler :/
i know for a fact that the third book is amazing, i hope this book is the only one in the series that'd disappoint me ^ ^

Suspense - a night surfer, inhuman, vampire Sidorio refuses to curb appetites, thrown off by Vampirate Captain Drakoulis. Crewmate twins 14, Grace wants to return for blinded vampirate Lorcan who rescued her from drowning, free Connor from life-binding articles to their Captain Molucco and study at the Pirate Academy. But the faculty are not as kind and honest as they seem, especially former ship deputy Cheng Li, suspiciously eager to be her confidante and choreograph Connor's sword fight demonstration against his new best friend Jacoby.

I like the concept, world, buildup (to foregone conclusion), standalone independence from prequel, easy G-rated read - much conversations, fun rhyming ditties - but little happens over many pages (1 1'2 lines "No" p354), overly abundant visions. <input type="checkbox" class="spoiler__control" aria-label="The following text has been marked spoiler. Twelve ships band together to burn ship of Molucco's brother, captain and crew slain by Sidorio's gang. Both teens give up trying to control the other's destiny, recognize the need for independent journeys.

If Grace's body is still comatose in the Academy, how can Lorcan touch her? Grace finds Captain Drakoulis familiar, leaving too much for sequels I would read, but not make an effort to find. <input type="checkbox" class="spoiler__control" aria-label="The following text has been marked spoiler. If you are looking for som real crap, you should read this. It got to be the worst book I`ve ever read! Siriosly, I can`t see how people can actually earn mony by writing this stuff. The whole plot is extremly childish and patethic. A pirate school? This book is the result you`ll get if you mix Harry Potter, Twilight and pirates of the Carribean. Yes. It is vampire-pirates (or what they call them in the book: vampirates) at a pirate school.
They are, as in Pirates of the Carribean, presenting the pirates as the heroes. Like beeing a pirate, who`s jumping around killing others is fantastic. The twelve-years-old hero of course never kill anybody, but he is with the others when they fight.
When ONE pirate dies everybody`s shocked as if that was unlikely. When a bunch of people is bording an other armed ship, many is dying, but not here. The plot is unrealistic, and silly.
47%

That went from a really cool adventure to boring and being hard to pay attention to.

This book is a continuation of the Original Vampirates book. Grace and Connor both attend a pirate academy for a week. All the while, Grace is still wondering about Lorcan, and his strange condition because he stayed out in the sunlight. She transports herself spiritually and visits Lorcan, as well as Darcy and the Captain, who all tell her to stay away from the ship. Connor is perfectly happy, and wishes to stay in the academy, while Grace is driven to madness as to jump off of a cliff to find the Vampirate ship.

This book is not as good as the first book. It is still a very good story, but Connor's portion of it isn't that interesting compared to Grace's. Grace has a lot of action, where as Connor is learning how to tie knots and fight better with swords.

¡Recomendado!

I really liked this book. I hate how Sidorio made a crew for himself and how he is planning on wiping the other Vampirates out. I like how Grace is willing to stay behind, no matter the danger, to save Lorcan’s sight. I like how Connor wants to take a break from the pirates and go to the Pirate Academy. I don’t like how Grace is always going and throwing herself into danger. I like how she finds the Vampirates again and how the two of them stay with the people who saved them.

Took me a while to read it because I wasn't reading everyday and sometimes lost interest. Still a pretty good book.

"He'd developed more than a passing acquaintance with sunrise."

Read the first book over a decade ago and then my parents bought me the rest of the series for Christmas one year. Finally getting back into it...although the concept of vampire pirates is goofy, I'll admit.
