Where Are the Great Pyramids?

I adore this series. <br><br>So much great information packed into a fun, illustrated read. As a teacher who is constantly trying to get children more interested in reading and history, these books hit the spot. I've read several of them out loud, as they only take about 30-40 min to read aloud. <br><br>I learned a lot of interesting things and had to keep pausing to look up photos on my phone. <br><br>*Honestly, this probably sounds stupid, but I didn't realize that there were SO many other pyramids around the world.<br><br>*I didn't know that Nubia actually took over Egypt for a time and contains a bunch of pyramids. <br><br><img src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1480110444i/21275324._SX540_.jpg" height="" width="" class="gr-hostedUserImg" loading="lazy"><br><br>*I had never heard of the Valley of the Kings. <br><br><img src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1480110444i/21275325._SX540_.jpg" width="" height="" class="gr-hostedUserImg" loading="lazy"><br><br>*I didn't even know the names of the pharaohs who actually had the Great Pyramids built. (Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.)<br><br>*Each stone weighed about 2.5 Tons! <br><br>*Near the pyramids they found a ship buried in pieces for the pharaoh to use and it took them ten years to put it together. <br><br><img src="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1480110444i/21275326._SX540_.jpg" height="" width="" class="gr-hostedUserImg" loading="lazy"><br><br>The only thing I felt sad about is that I'll probably never get to see all these places in real life. I just don't feel safe traveling to that part of the world right now. Good thing for books and the internet! <br><br>

Nubia in Sudan has more (although much much smaller) pyramids, who knew? Might go check it out.

At times I thought it described everything except the pyramids but then it included others, in the Americas, so that was cool. Children's book, after all.<br /><br />Just because Egypt has the largest, doesn't mean they are the only ones out there.

The Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt have fascinated people for millennia and, although they have been studied for much of that time, there is still so much that we don't know or understand about them. Where Are the Great Pyramids? by Dorothy Hoobler tries to give us a short but fact-laden overview of the history of these pyramids as well as inform us about the presence of pyramids in other lands and cultures around the world including in Mexico, South America, Asia, and more. She includes a good amount of history of Egypt and the Pharaohs for who the pyramids were built to hold their remains for the afterlife. It was well written and held my interest. It is a great starting point for an overview of Egyptian pyramids and tombs that may spark an interest in pursuing further studies on this topic.

This is a fairly straightforward book on the history of the Pyramids at an elementary school level. It is primarily about the pyramids of Egypt, but does present a number of other places that have pyramids in a few chapters. While the title may make you think that it is only about the Great Pyramids of Giza, that's not really the case. It is more about what led to pyramids and what they were used for in general, with the Great Pyramids being the high point of Egyptian pyramid building.<br /><br />The book is easy to read and goes pretty quick. It was easy to understand and our kids enjoyed listening to it for our studies on ancient Egypt. As I said this is definitely geared towards a younger audience, but if you're not up on your pyramid knowledge you may just learn a few things in the process of reading the book as well. I know I did.

My favorite character from this book is king Tut, short for Tutankhamen. King Tut was a minor pharaoh who had a small 4 room tomb. But the reason his tomb got so famous is because it had not been looted. In fact they found amazing treasures in his tomb, which were discovered in 1922. <br /><br /> What surprised me most was that the Egyptians didn't just make human mummies, they also had animal mummies, including Cats, Dogs, Donkeys, Gazelles and Lions.<br /><br /> If I were the author of this book I think I would change up the ending because at the end of the book they talked about modern Pyramids such as Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Walter Pyramid witch is a sports arena in long beach, California, Louvre Museum in Paris France, and a lot more but I would have made the ending talking about the actual historical pyramids of Egypt.<br /><br />

Where Are the Great Pyramids is a great book. I read it with my fifth grade daughter who is enthralled by all things Egyptian. This book talks a little bit about where Egypt is located geographically, the evolution of pyramid building in Egypt, the pharaohs who built the pyramids, and other cultures who also built pyramids. I highly recommend this book for young readers with an interest in Egypt.

Everything I could ever want to know about ancient Egypt, Pharaohs, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and other pyramids around the world. <br />It's possible I would have been slightly freaked out by the detailed information on the mummification process if I'd read this as a kid. <br />My 101 year old friend read it before I did, and I agree with her response: interesting!

Buku ini juga dilengkapi dengan gambar-gambar ilustrasi meskipun tidak berwarna. Narasinya mudah dimengerti dan dicerna oleh anak-anak sehingga cocok untuk pengantar yang memberikan pengetahuan dasar bagi mereka tentang piramida dan bangsa Mesir Kuno.<br /><br />
