I love Jennifer Ashley. I love The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie. That book is one of my all times most loved, unforgettable reads. Like top 5 of all times. So When I seen JA had a shifter series I was so excited. I really wanted to love this series. I really wanted it to be my next great find. That series that is so good you just can't put it down. The one you fall madly in love with and stalk the author for each new release. Sadly this series and me need to take a time out. From book one I have like the series okay. Some were more enjoyable then other, but something has been off for me since book 1. Something has rubbed me wrong about this world, and it's gotten more annoying with each new book. I find myself enjoying parts of each book but annoyed at others in every read. It's gotten to the point where it almost feels like work. So for now I'm calling it quits. I don't know what it is about this shifter world that is bugging me, but I feel I need to step away and maybe when I come back I will enjoy it more.

Audiobook review. The story was solid. The characters, both primary and secondary, were flashed out well with distinct characterization. I enjoyed the build up between Kendrick and Addie. They had good chemistry. It translated well when they finally got together. The cubs were such a cute addition. They really brought the family together. The bit of OW drama, however, was not as welcome. The plot was good. It allowed us insight into previous series couples and expanded upon a greater central plot in addition to the one directly affecting the MCs. I did find at least one part a bit hypocritical. You can't condone an action done by the hero his younger days and then have the hero call out and try to shame someone else as they attempt to do it to him. The narrator did a good job :) Safety: No OM/Sharing, though OM hit on the h. No OW, but there is drama associated with someone the H had been with occasionally before. She also tries to kiss our H. He stops her. No rape or abuse.

The highlight of this book is that the free-collarless shifters will eventually manage to establish their community.

Of course as we learned in book “Bear Attraction”, there already was a free shifters’ community undetectable under the eyes of the humans and the rest of the leaders of the known shifters’ towns.

The events at “Bear Attraction” forced the members of this old community to scatter and most of them to seek for a new leader, while white tiger Kendrick, i.e. their old leader and guardian, was hiding with his three little cubs.

In this book Kendrick becomes stronger and more powerful against an old dangerous enemy who will appear suddenly. Kendrick will have to prove his leadership and the leaders of the known shifters’ towns will have to acknowledge his power and his presence.

Kendrick also finds a new mate, sweet lonely waitress Addison. Addison becomes a mother figure for his children and she will try to establish her position as the mate of the leader. Kendrick will teach her the legends of the stars from shifters’ point of view and their way of life. Their story is fascinating as most of the love stories in this series.

Zander, the healer polar bear, is stealing the show once more and I need to start his book ASAP.
Do you enjoy shifter tales but are fed up with the norm? Then why not start this series that has a truly novel way of looking at them. Shifters that originally were I suppose you could say 'pets' of the Fae but now living in the human world and yet still not totally free. Forced to wear collars made by Fae magic that control their more fearsome urges and living or should that be existing in shifter towns. Feared and misunderstood but their desire for freedom could come at a huge cost.
In a sleepy diner in Texas, Addison works hard but doesn't seem to have much fun in her life. That's ok though as she loves her sister and her children whom she lives with and if her smile brightens a customers day then life is good. Now there's one customer who Addison would really love to get to know more about but the quiet guy just gives nothing away. Add in the fact that he has three adorable little boys and Addison can't really see anything happening between them. That all changes when the diner is attacked and the gorgeous hunk Kendrick turns out to be both saviour and would you believe white tiger? Life may have been a little dull but that's all about to change in a big way!
First off I have to say I've enjoyed this series but some of the stories appeal to this reader more and happily this book ticks all my boxes. Heroine with gumption who has no difficulty making her own decisions. Protective hero , who melted my heart with his love for 'his' boys whether by blood or not. This book isn't set in a shifter town and it feels better for it. Yes there's tension and danger but it's not from the humans it's shifter against shifter which adds a whole new dimension. Clearly I cannot say too much but I was quite surprised to see how much influence retired alpha Dylan had in this story. What elevates this book though is the realistic feelings shared between this shifter family and that they included Addison so easily ( well when Kendrick got his head out of his you know what!) leaving this reader with a smile on her face.
This is a series that I enjoy but I do think this particular book works as a standalone. This I'd recommended to those who enjoy paranormal romance

White Tiger was fantastic. Action packed, swoony romance and cubs! Cubs...everywhere. I love me some little cubs!

Okay so the quick of it is that Kendrick is on the run with his three cubs and the bad guys have caught up with them. Unfortunately for their waitress...it catches up with them while they're at her diner. And oh life is about to change in a crazy dangerous and exciting way as they fight to protect the cubs and find a safe haven for the shifers Kendrick calls his own.

Kendrick and Addison were a fantastic couple. He's protective, fierce, and maybe a little growly. Totally alpha and sexy. And Addison...chickie is awesome. She dives in, does what she needs to do, is strong and caring and a little sassy. I loved them together. Maybe not your likeliest of couples but perfect in their differences and how they come together. Loved em.

The cubs are always a highlight for me. I loved that in this one. Kendrick has three sons. Two bio that are little white tigers and one wolf he adopted. And omg talk about making all your girly bits sigh! I loved Kendrick with his little boys. How protective he was and fierce in protecting them. Something so damn sexy about a badass alpha male who loves his little ones. The cubs were freaking darling too. I'm seriously bummed that human kids can't turn into little white tigers. I would freaking love that! I just wanted to squeeze them so tight.

The suspense was intense and hit right from the start. The villain was truly awful and it kept me n the edge of my seat from page one. It brought Addi and Kendrick close together very quickly as they fought for survival.

Pretty much everything about White Tiger was simply wonderful. Ashley knows how to hold a reader in her spell and, once again, did a damn fine job creating a nail biting action packed adventure you just cannot miss.

~~~pre-squee~~~
Want it. Want it. Need it. Gotta have it. Willing to do naughty things for it. lol
There is something about this series that holds me back from totally loving it. I think it is because the world is so dark and the struggle is ongoing. That being said, I really enjoyed White Tiger for the most part. Kendrick is an awesome hero and his three boys are the cutest things ever! I also really liked Addy. She was a terrific heroine and perfect for Kendrick and his boys. If she had an ounce of drama or TSTL in her it would have killed the story.
But I HATE dead spouse stories. Especially ones where they were mates! I really only want one mate for life. I want the heroine to be special. I felt she was special in the moment, but if his first mate had lived, they would have never gotten together. He said he would love her forever. Blah!
I also hate the long suffering OW who has been in love with the hero forever and causes drama troupe. I did not feel Kendrick explained enough to Addy (not that she demanded it). Just a pet peeve.
BUT - highlight of the story was all the Tiger time we got (my most favorite of her heroes)!!!! And the ending was FABULOUS!
Review written February 2, 2018
3.5 Stars - A nice enough suspenseful paranormal romance (but not life shattering amazing)
Book #8 - White Tiger, hopefully a good read as the others in this favorite series of me.
I was listening to the 10:38 hours audiobook narrated by Cris Dukehart ... and she does it so very well every time. Half the joy.
**********************************************
White Tiger is about Kendrick, a white tiger Shifter, who has been the Guardian of un-Collared Shifters who spend their lives living in secret—and in fear of being shunted into Shiftertowns. We always get new couples and new lovestories but as always when reading a series about a bigger bunch of new and already known characters is it most fun (and maybe best) to follow them (here in two different shifter town's) from book to book in order.
"Twenty years ago, shape shifters of all kinds banded together and announced themselves to the world, only to be shunted to areas no human wanted ("Shiftertowns"). — They are forced to wear Collars that control their hunting and fighting instincts (referred to by Shifters as "Taking the Collar")."
I'm always enjoying these books and higly recommend shifter lovers to try. — More or less 4 stars or more for these full length novels and a good 3 stars review for the shorter in between novellas.
My reviews and raitings: <input type="checkbox" class="spoiler__control" aria-label="The following text has been marked spoiler. I had a little hard to really truly care about these two turtle pigeons to be honest. Nothing wrong but I wasn’t completely hooked. However, the adventure and all around dilemma in the shifter group itself was truly okay and interesting. Maybe White Tiger became a bit of more politics and problems than love?
The part or characters I will remember most from this book? - ...Of course these three shifter cubs. **Cuddle** - Ahhh, they were all absolutely adorable cuties. So fun and lovely to meet. Couldn’t but adore them just as much as their very tough and hard tiger father did.
Okay I wasn’t that impressed but always looking forward to next book and couple in this series as always.
**********************************************
I LIKE - J Ashley’s shifter books
I've skipped around in this series and have enjoyed it for the most part but this book was disappointing for me. Here's my breakdown:
The pros:
* I like having the children/cubs in this read - and that the father was so protective of them
The cons:
* I didn’t care for the hero - his "mate" had died 4 years before and that’s just something I don’t care for in my books
* Speaking of the hero, he just never seemed to really be in love with the heroine - the romance had no passion
* At one point, a female member of their pack (that claimed to be in love with the hero) starts kissing and nuzzling the hero - he does push her off, but still. The heroine sees this and doesn’t even make an issue out of it. Another book quality I don’t like.
* The heroine was a bit weak for my preference - the hero just kept blowing her off and she was always there waiting with open arms
* Way over priced at $7.99
Overall, I was diappointed with this book but I will still check out others in the series.
When their den in infiltrated and his clan is forced to run, Kendrick struggles to find a new place for them to live free of the shifter towns and the dreaded collars forced on them by the humans. A chance meeting with a gorgeous human scares Kendrick as he can’t afford any distractions from his mission but he can’t seem to stay away from her. When he is forced to defend his life from a rogue shifter in front of her, Kendrick knows he must let her go for good.
Addison Price, a waitress at a local dinner, looks forward to the nights Kendrick comes in with his sons. Her little crush on Kendrick turns deeper when he saves her and the boys from a gun wielding killer. When they are to part ways, Addison makes the decision to go with Kendrick and the boys, offering babysitting services in exchange for his protection. As Addison learns more about Kendrick’s history, her feelings towards shifters change and she is willing to do whatever it takes to help Kendrick and his boys find a safe place for them and his people to live freely. But someone doesn’t want Kendrick safe and they will do whatever it takes to stop him.
Some small spoilers if you aren’t current with the series.
We first met Kendrick in the novella Bear Attraction. Bear shifter Rebecca (bear shifter) and Walker (human liaison between humans and shifters) were forced to work together when Rebecca is caught on restricted land in shifter form. In their investigation into finding a suspected kidnapped human, they find and force Kendrick to destroy his den and scatter his people into the wind for safety. His and his people’s cover’s blown, Kendrick made a deal with Dylan. In exchange for Dylan’s help in keeping his people safe, he agreed to help Dylan solve various problems. When Kendrick is attacked by his some of his own people, he knows it’s time to find a new den and bring his people home.
White Tiger is the eighth installment in Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series. A strong paranormal romance that delivers well-developed characters, suspense-filled plots lines, sensual romances, and witty dialogues. Well crafted, the balance created between the sexy romance and the heart pounding action is always spot on. Evolving world building allows for easy comprehension even though each book and the series as a whole is multi-layered. Filled with multiple characters and plotlines that further expand the arc and take us in new directions; you will find yourself devouring each page as each book garners us bigger clues and dangerous situations, leading us towards the series finale.
This particular installment reminded me of an earlier installment-Tiger’s Magic. Kendrick is an older more stable version of Tiger. He is what Tiger would have been if he hadn’t been isolated in a lab for most of his life. Strong, intelligent, stalwart, and loyal to the core, both alpha males will fight to the death for those they love and care for yet chose not to broadcast their dominance over others. They both just want to live in peace and avoid the politics that often is inflicted on their kind. Addison is also a lot like Tiger’s mate Carley. Human, smart, gorgeous, full of life, practical, and also loyal to the core. She has no heavy baggage or deadly secrets. What you see is what you get. Like Carly, Addison always fights for the underdog and will do whatever it takes to keep those she loves and cares for safe.
“The second you’re done with Seamus, you find me and tell me what’s going on. Don’t make me come looking for you, now, you hear?”
The chemistry and sexual tension between Kendrick and Addison is hot and heavy with lots of sexual tension though the romance builds very slowly. Kendrick doesn’t want the added distractions and he is afraid he will hurt her with his shifter strength. I loved that the mate trope wasn’t used. Kendrick had to get to know one Addison; learn to trust her before embarking down that road. I also enjoyed that Addison wasn’t a pushover or instantly “in love” with Kendrick either. She questions his actions and offers opinions and objections when needed. As always, there are no closed bedroom scenes. Addison in essence “chases” Kendrick while he struggles not to give into his desires. Once Kendrick accepts he can’t stay away from her, the physical aspects catch up with the emotional ones.
“I want it hard and fast, basic and raw. I want you on the ground, against the wall, you riding me, me on you, locked together, inseparable. I want you groaning my name while I shout your, and I want you begging me to never stop. “
The main conflict blends perfectly with the romance as Ashley reveals the reasons behind the assassination attempt on Kendrick and the person(s) responsible. The action and intrigue further deepens as familiar faces from past installments enter the scene while some new faces are introduced that add depth, humor, and further expansion the world. I liked meeting Kendrick’s seconds, especially Seamus and his family, and learning more about his past. Kendrick’s sons are adorable and soften the hardness of Kendrick’s personality while giving Addison and Kendrick a bridge on which to build their romance. Zander Moncrieff has to be my favorite new character, besides our protagonists. A healer whose reluctant heroics and dry humor hide the darkness of his gift. I can’t wait to see more of him.
Zander was a polar bear shifter, a creature as rare as the white tiger. Still more rare, he was a healer, the gift of the Goddess running strong in him.
He was also batshite crazy.
There are also some fabulous subplots that will leave you ready for more of this world as Ashley gives us clues to future storylines and updates on concern certain couples.
The ending is an intense, emotional roller coaster ride of deception, betrayal, and redemption as Ashley wraps up the main conflict in a satisfactory manner. Ashley continues to be a favorite romance author; whether it’s paranormal or historical. I recommend this series to all readers who love their heroes and heroines to be kick ass, sexy, funny, and always willing to cross the line for those they love.
Grade: B+
